Sailing

Congratulations to Isobel Payne (Year 11) who competed in the Hardy Cup.

The Hardy Cup is a World Sailing International Grade 3 Youth (under 23) Match Racing Event, contested in small keelboats with a crew of five and hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.  There were 10 teams including three international, and the match racing was fiercely contested across four days.  Despite being called up just five days before the event, the junior squad from the RSYS came together brilliantly to walk away with 7th. Isobel was in the position of ’trimmer’, handling both the jib and the spinnaker. (Her sister Gretel (SCEGGS class of 2020) was also trimmer on a senior RSYS team).

It was a thrilling event, with a big mix of conditions – the first day was light but the next three were very windy and challenging.  After a slight catastrophe on day two with their spinnaker, the team recovered to take out another three wins in the second round. They placed 7th overall,  a great end to an intense regatta.

NSW All Schools Teams Racing (Sailing)

Good luck to the following students who will be representing SCEGGS at the NSW Schools Teams Racing Championships being hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron from March 15 -17: Alexandra Argy (Year 11), Isobel Payne (Year 11), Jessica Board (Year 10), Sophie M (Year 10), Michaela Docherty (Year 9), Sophia Bolot (Year 8), Natalie Perkins (Year 8) and Eleanor Di Pilla (Year 7).

SCEGGS International Women’s Day Run

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #InspireInclusion.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion.

Come and celebrate women athletes and applaud when equality is achieved in pay, sponsorship, and visibility. Visit the website here.

Please join us in our annual SCEGGS International Women’s Day Run. Students, parents/carers, dogs ALL welcome as we run through the streets of Darlinghurst and Woolloomooloo down to the Botanical gardens.

International Women’s Day belongs to everyone, everywhere. The day marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Let’s step forward in solidarity and collectively, let’s #InspireInclusion for women and girls everywhere.

Snowsports 2024

For those SCEGGS families who are thinking about participating in the SCEGGS Snowsports Team, now is the time to lock in your accommodation before it all books out. SCEGGS competes in the Sydney Region of Interschools to be held at Perisher from July 16–19. The emphasis at the regional level is on participation so students do not need to be super quick.  Students should however be capable of skiing or boarding down a blue run unassisted.

The competition is open to all students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. More information can be found in this link.

Please contact Alison Gowan on 0418 491 521 if you would like to discuss further.
