Year 11 Drama Performance ‘Ruby Moon’

During the recent McCormack Assembly, two Year 11 Drama students, Merry Shamoon and Menalys Aguilar-Garcia, performed a small section of their recent Drama assessment for the students.
It was a duologue performance based on the Australian Absurdist play, ‘Ruby Moon’ by Matt Cameron. It tells the story of a young girl who goes missing and the parents interview their neighbours to find out what they saw on that dreaded day. All Drama students were introduced to this new theatre style and had to employ Absurdist conventions and Drama Elements to create a performance which captured the audience’s attention, developed unique and engaging characters and highlighted key themes of grief, loss and appearance vs reality.
The performance during assembly was a great success with the girls giving their peers an insight into the work they create within the Drama classroom. Both students mentioned how happy they were that they presented this in front of such a large group as it helped them to develop their confidence, prepare for future HSC performance assessment tasks and feel proud of what they had accomplished.
