Year 8
For a four day week, Week 2 has definitely been jam packed! The ANZAC Service on Tuesday was full of reflection and respect from all the students. The students listened attentively and it was lovely to see everyone together to commemorate such an important day. Following the ANZAC Service, Year 8 had Xavier Maling, Jack Rudd and a number of Cadets in Year 9 to Year 12 to come and offer insights about joining the Cadet unit and their experiences from their time in Cadets. Year 8 will have an opportunity to come and try Cadet home training in Week 3 before signing up to begin in Term 3 of this year. Further information about this will be sent home to families soon.
This week was also the exciting Back to College Day, celebrating 140 years of MLC School. The girls enjoyed another assembly out on the field along with some celebratory birthday cupcakes!
In other news, Year 8 have been busy in Luminary and Year Group time with a cybersafety session and coming up the students will have a chance to hear from our Counselling team and spend time with their Big Sisters. All of these opportunities are designed to support Year 8 as they continue to learn how to manage relationships, challenge themselves and support their friends. It is hitting that time in Year 8 where relationships can start to change and sometimes become tricky. I am often meeting with groups of students to assist them to work through relational issues, sometimes about school, co-curricular activities or general friendships. This is a large part of my role as a Head of Year, however my support is not always about fixing the situation, but rather providing assistance, an opportunity for reflection and guidance to help Year 8 build their social and emotional skills. If your child needs assistance in this area, please encourage them to reach out to their Luminary as a starting point.
I wish you all a safe and lovely weekend.
