Sporting Achievements

National Swimming – Madison Chantler 

Madison Chantler (Year 11) spent the recent break competing on the Gold Coast at both the Australian Open Championships and the Australian Age Championships, representing MLC School with determination and pride.

At the Australian Open Championships, Madison achieved strong results against open-age competition, because of these impressive performances, Madison has achieved qualifying times for the Australian Swimming Trials, to be held in Sydney this June.

We congratulate Madison on her outstanding achievements and wish her every success at the upcoming trials.

 

Ashley Clapham 

Ashley (Year 8) enjoyed an outstanding and action-packed holiday period, excelling across both water polo and swimming.

She was selected in the U14A Gold Division team for UNSW Wests and travelled to Brisbane to compete at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships. Ashley and her team delivered a strong performance, finishing the tournament with a well-earned bronze medal.

Not slowing down, Ashley then represented MLC Marlins at the Australian Age Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast, where she competed in the 13 Years 50m Butterfly event.

Congratulations to Ashley on her impressive achievements across two demanding sports an excellent reflection of her dedication and versatility.

Zoe Pollard and Eve Ireland

Zoe Pollard (Year 12) and Eve Ireland (Year 12) both competed at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYC), held in Brisbane over the holidays.

AYC is Australia’s premier annual representative and club water polo competition, bringing together top young athletes.

Representing their clubs, University of Sydney and Balmain Tigers, Both Zoe and Eve competed in the Under 18s division against 12 teams from around Australia and South Africa. Zoe and her teammates were undefeated as they progressed through the tournament and advanced to the gold medal match on Sunday.

After a thrilling final, the team secured the Silver Medal, an outstanding achievement. Congratulations Zoe!

Eve Parker, Sophie Winnall, Eliza Kershaw MacDonald 

A big congratulations to Eve Parker (Year 12), Sophie Winnall (Year 12) and Eliza Kershaw MacDonald (Year 12) on their selection to represent NSW at the Junior Pathways Regatta held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.

The athletes began their campaign training out of the Sydney University boatshed alongside other selected scullers from across the state, forming competitive quads in preparation for the event.

They went on to race in the Interstate Regatta, delivering outstanding performances. Eve and Sophie secured an impressive 3rd place in an exceptionally tight finish, while Eliza achieved a strong and well‑earned 7th place in her event.

A fantastic achievement for all three athletes.

Gem McGuire (Year 5)

Yuechen Wu (Year 3)

  • 1st in Girl 8-10 years 50m BK
  • 1st in Grils 8-10 years 50m Fly
  • 4th in Girls 9 years 50m FS,

Huge congratulations to Yuechen Wu and Gem McGuire on their outstanding performances. Yuechen delivered a remarkable effort, winning both the 50 m Backstroke and 50 m Butterfly in the Girls 8–10 years age group.

Gem also had an exceptional meet, breaking the 50 m Freestyle and 50 m Breaststroke records in her category. She has additionally qualified for the School National Swimming Championships, to be held in Melbourne later this year.

2026 Australian Open and Age Swimming Championships (Gold Coast)

During the team break, five MLC School students completed the Australian Age Swimming Championships in Gold Coast, and Madison Chantler also competed at the Australian Swimming Championships at the same venue. Congratulations to each swimmer who competed at the Open and Age National levels.

Diving

Emma Yan (Year 4) and Grace Luo (Year 4) proudly represented CIS NSW and MLC School at the recent PSSA Championships, one of the strongest school pathway competitions of the year in diving. The two Year 4 MLC School students delivered outstanding performances in the Girls 9 Years 1m Springboard event, with Emma earning a podium finish in third place and Grace achieving an impressive fifth overall. Congratulations to both students on their excellent results!

National Diving

During the recent term break, the Diving Age National Championships were held in South Australia, with MLC School proudly represented by Dive Captain Ada Savage (Year 10) and Eloise Dastyari (Year 7).

Competing against strong national fields, both students demonstrated determination and resilience throughout the competition. Ada delivered an impressive performance in the 14/15 Years 3m Springboard event, placing 5th out of 33 divers. Eloise also competed admirably, finishing 20th in the 12/13 Years 3m Springboard event from a field of 34 competitors.

A standout moment of the championships came in the 14/15 Years Platform event, where Ada secured an outstanding 2nd place finish. This achievement was a highlight of the competition, drawing significant excitement from the grandstands.

These results reflect the dedication and commitment both athletes bring to their sport, as well as the valuable guidance and support of their coach, Shixin Li. The championships provided both students with a rewarding experience, offering opportunities for growth, learning, and development at a national level.

MLC School congratulates Ada and Eloise on their achievements and looks forward to their continued progress in diving.

Underwater Hockey

Congratulations to Zoe Marshall (Year 10) on her outstanding achievement in being selected to represent Australia in the Under 19 Women’s Underwater Hockey Team at the 2026 World Underwater Hockey Championships, to be held in Turkey this July.

This is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to Zoe’s dedication, skill, and commitment to her sport. We wish her every success as she competes on the international stage and represents both her school and country with pride.
