Year 8 French Update

The year 8 French classes have been participating in a range of exciting activities to help supplement their learning. At the end of term 2, 8I and 😯 competed in a class vs class match of disco foot, a “sport” originally created by the Ballet de Lorraine in Nancy, France that combines the rules of football with the imperative to dance. Each team tries to score goals with the silver disco ball but every player must be dancing at all times. The teams receive points for goals scored but were also scored out of 10 for creativity and artistic ability by our guest judges Madame Reynolds and Madame Catalan.

Before playing, each team was taught some essential French football chants, which they were also encouraged to replicate on the field to support their team. While the dancing was initially underwhelming, in the second half 😯 brought out some stylish moves and won the game! All participants were also invited to play “toss the beret” during half time, which saw some very impressive athletic abilities.

After the excitement of all this sport, the classes finished the term with the annual French Breakfast, sampling a range of delicious croissants, baguettes, eclairs and cheeses while drinking 10 litres of hot chocolate. Many students were heard exclaiming “miam miam!” as they bravely tasted roquefort and chèvre for the first time.
