Native Tree Planting

The new members to the Fort 🌲🌲🌲

Hi Fortians! We are happy to announce that we have planted 34 happy local native trees across the school. We hope that everyone welcomes them to the Fort Street community!

So you can get to know these trees better, we have blueberry ash, which has small pink flowers in spring that smell like liquorice.

Water gums, that make clusters of yellow flowers.

Banksias, that have yellow cones like candles and funny wooden-looking seed pods. 

We have bottlebrush trees, and you might have tasted lemon myrtle-flavoured tea or cake.

Lorikeets regularly flock to the Melaleuca blossoms, which look like cauliflowers.

And you know tea tree oil, that you put on cuts and scratches? It comes from a tree like this one. 

All these trees will grow really cool flowers that will attract native birds and insects. It’ll take them a bit of time, but they’ll get there, maybe next spring if we’re lucky. And if you want to impress your English teacher, drop the name of one of these trees into your creative writing.

We’d like to thank the team of 10 students, teachers and parents who volunteered their time planting these trees. We would also like to thank the NSW Teachers Federation for donating all these beautiful trees to our school.
