President’s Welcome

President’s Welcome

Our members have most certainly benefitted from two productive and stimulating Professional Development sessions conducted over the past term.

On Friday 18 May, I was delighted to attend Monash University and hear from Kate Dyvestan. Monash University’s Director of Social Inclusion. Kate spoke of the outstanding mentoring program that Monash has run now for a number of years. The program reaches out to local schools and encourages students to aim for a university education. Backed by Monash students as mentors, both parties take an incredible amount out of this experience and showcase how powerful mentoring can be when done at an exemplary and personal level. Thank you to Rosie Nelson, Vic/Tas Committee member for organising this session that was attended by almost 30 members.

We ventured to Loreto College, Ballarat on Tuesday 29 May for our Regional PD, run by Vic/Tas Committee member, Judy-Ann Quilliam. Attendees travelled far and wide to this beautiful part of the world to be provided with information on four valuable areas;

  • Copywriting
  • Admissions
  • Child Safety regulations
  • IT infrastructure in large organisations

It is no mean feat attracting such talented speakers and I am indebted to Judy-Ann for the work that she does in embracing our regional members. It was wonderful to have a tour of the campus afterwards, something we all enjoy doing when visiting other institutions.

Our Committee have decided that we will not have any further PD’s or SIG’s in 2018 as we look forward to this years’ International Conference in Auckland. I am really pleased to note that over 100 Vic/Tas members have registered thus far. I am sure there will be many more. You will be pleased to note that on Wednesday 5 September, we will be conducting a Vic/Tas Cocktail Party at The Bluestone Room in Auckland. This will be a relaxed, cocktail style event and a great opportunity to meet fellow Vic/Tas members. Further details will be advised shortly.

It’s my pleasure to announce that the 2018 Educate Plus International Conference (Auckland) VIC-TAS Scholarship Winners are:

Karen Di Benedetto –  Fahan School, TAS

Jean Christie – Emmanuel College, Warrnambool

Stuart Alsop  – Crest Education

Dion Harvey  – Crest Education

Roslyn Holloway  – Mentone Girls’ Grammar School

Julie Cole  – St Joseph’s College Geelong

Kaz Tonks  –  Fahan School, TAS

As always, we are grateful for the ongoing support of our sponsors. Thank you all very much for your support.

We look forward to seeing you in New Zealand!
