From the Assistant Principal
At Marist Sisters’ College, the wellbeing and safety of every student remain our highest priorities. As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment, our team continuously reviews student wellbeing data and school practices. In this newsletter, our Leader of Wellbeing has provided an article with important information around bullying. You would be aware that the media and NSW Government has been recently highlighted school data identifying an emerging trend in NSW and in all schools: an increase in moderate incidents of bullying. While the vast majority of our students at the College consistently embody our Marist values as ‘Sisters for Life’, sometimes students do make errors of judgement and it the responsibility of staff, as Catholic educators to correct their ways.
In alignment with Sydney Catholic Schools, we are strengthening our anti-bullying strategies; however, working towards anti-bullying strategies is a shared responsibility with families.
Parental Controls on Devices
The majority of issues that are dealt with by the College have a genesis on mobile phones outside of school hours. By activating simple device settings to filter harmful content, managing contacts, and keeping screens out of bedrooms overnight, you instantly eliminate major windows of risk before harm occurs.
Setting up these tools openly with your children frames digital boundaries as a supportive safety net rather than a punishment, taking the pressure off parents to be a tech expert while keeping them secure across gaming, messaging, and online spaces. It is never too late to: activate basic device controls, keep the conversation flowing, and build the open communication your child needs to navigate the online world safely.
Parental controls. Simple tools, safer kids
We encourage parents and caregivers to maintain open conversations with their children about respectful relationships, kindness, and the importance of speaking up when concerns arise. If you ever have concerns regarding your child’s wellbeing or experiences at school, please reach out directly to your dauguter’s Tutor or House Coordinator in the first instance. Together, we can ensure Marist Sisters’ College remains a supportive environment where every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to flourish.
Students and Uber and Taxi
A gentle reminder to all families regarding early departures: if your daughter needs to leave school during the day, she must be collected directly by a parent or carer. To maintain our duty of care, students are not permitted to travel via Uber, ride-share, or taxi unless accompanied by an adult carer.
