Celebrating our 140th year with our Sapphires and our Kindergarteners

This week, we welcomed a record number of guests to our annual Sapphires Luncheon, an event which brings together some of our oldest alumnae for a celebration of friendship and shared memories. Those who joined us on Tuesday graduated between 1949 and 1975, and there was no shortage of stories to tell as they reflected on their school days and reconnected with one another.

Looking around the room on Tuesday, I was struck by the joy that shared memories continue to bring. Stories of school days, familiar jokes and past adventures sparked laughter and lively conversation among our Old Girls, a lovely reminder of the enduring pleasure of being with those who knew us when we were young.

At the other end of the spectrum, our Kindergarteners celebrated their 140th day of school today. Their equally joyous chatter, sense of fun and engagement was infectious, and it was wonderful to see so many parents and friends joining in the fun and learning.

There may be more than a 90-year age difference between our Kindergarten students and the oldest Sapphire in attendance on Tuesday, yet being part of both events in the same week was an important reminder that school is a place of growth – not only academically, but socially and emotionally. The lessons and experiences that our girls have from the day that they start in Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten will shape who they become and the mark they make on the world.

There is also something wonderful about knowing that your daughters may already be forming friendships that will sustain them through difficult times and bring them joy for decades to come. I hope that one day, they too may gather as Sapphires, laughing over shared memories and picking up conversations as though no time has passed.

Help us to Shape the Future of MLC School – Your Voice Matters

All MLC School parents were emailed a letter from the Principal yesterday. The letter included an anonymous link for a parent feedback survey that is being run by independent research company McCrindle. Your experiences, insights and honest feedback are incredibly valuable to us – please take a moment to participate before the survey closes on Wednesday 4 November 2026. If you have not received the letter and survey link, please contact us by email here.
