This week in our Senior Years devotional service, students reflected on Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son – a story of choices, regret, forgiveness, and the possibility of beginning again.

 

As Fathers Day approaches, the parable offers a meaningful image of love at its best: patient, compassionate and welcoming. The father in the story does not define his son by his mistakes but receives him with grace and hope.

 

We recognise that Fathers Day can be joyful for some families and more complex for others. This story gently reminds us that love, care and belonging can be expressed in many ways – through fathers, grandfathers, carers, mentors and those who offer steady support in our lives.

 

For our students, the message is both simple and important: we are not defined by our worst moments, and growth is always possible. In school life, we continue to learn how to apologise, forgive, repair relationships and make space for one another to begin again.

 

May this week be an opportunity for all of us – students, families and staff – to practise compassion in action, helping one another know that we belong, that we matter, and that we can grow together.

 

We wish all fathers, grandfathers, carers and father figures in our community a blessed Fathers Day. May the day be filled with gratitude, gentleness and the joy of being celebrated.

Loving God, we give thanks for fathers, grandfathers, carers and all who offer steady love and guidance.
Bless our families and our MLC School community with compassion, patience and grace.
