Committee Member Spotlight – Yvette Graniero

Committee Member Spotlight – Yvette Graniero

Tell us a little about your background and what lead you to your role of Director of Community Relations at Santa Sabina College.
After leaving school, I did a Communications degree at UTS majoring in Public Relations before doing further study in Event Management. I was working in the Events and Comms industry for 18 years before the opportunity at Santa Sabina came up. As I attended the College from K-12 I was immediately drawn to the role.

What is your favourite aspect of the role?
The role is so diverse and no two days are the same. I love interacting with all members of the community whether they be staff, students, parents or alumni

How long have you been a member of EP?
I have been a member of Educate Plus for 6 years now.

What is your role on the committee?
I am the Marketing and Communications Special Interest Group coordinator.

What has being a member done to help your career development?
Educate Plus has allowed me interact with so many professionals around Australia. The networking and professional relationships I have been able to foster have been beneficial to fulfilling my role at Santa.

Who would you like to have lunch with and where?
My Grandmother died 6 years ago and she was the most amazing woman – she had 9 children and 27 grandchildren and was the matriarch of my family. She loved each and everyone one of her grandchildren and would never forget a birthday or special occasion. I would love to have lunch with her again at her farm in Queensland.

Favourite food and why
I love Italian food – not only do I have an Italian background – but I am fortunate to have wonderful in-laws who own an Italian restaurant so regular family dinners at the restaurant are a wonderful way to spend a mid week dinner – That I don’t have to cook!

You have just returned from two very different overseas trips
Compare and contrast! This year I celebrated a significant birthday so I was very fortunate to have two wonderful holidays. A family trip to Italy with my husband and three sons as well as my in-laws and Mother and Sister was an amazing adventure and one we will never forget. Contrasted with a girls trip to Las Vegas and Los Angeles with lots of great restaurants, bars and shopping – as well as time to relax by the pool.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you
I have a twin sister – we are very different but it has always been wonderful having an ally. And lucky her – she has twin boys – who are just as different as us!

What does success look like to you?
Success to me is finding balance between my family, career and social life and managing all of them well.
