From the Study Hub – Combined Schools Book Club
138 students from Domremy and another 38 students from St Vincent’s College Ashfield took part in the Combined Schools Book Club Event on Wednesday this week.
The theme for the day was ‘Classics’ and it was amazing to see our girls excited to talk and discuss the ‘classic’ novels they have read. This was followed by morning tea and a chance to forge new friendships.
Students were treated to a presentation from the incredibly knowledgeable Paul McDonald. Paul is a highly awarded children’s literature advocate, author, and the former president of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) NSW branch. He also owned the Children’s Bookshop, which was an award-winning Sydney literary institution since 1971. He has a Master of Education, working almost 20 years as a teacher of Upper Primary and Secondary. He has also won the Quality Teachers Award and the Premier’s English Scholarship, as well as the Maurice Saxby and Lady Cutler Awards for services to children’s literature and literacy in Australia.
Students participated incredibly enthusiastically and were introduced to many titles which I hope they will eagerly devour and be inspired by!
Reading and literacy are a community wide priority at Domremy!
