MMG Survey & Strategic Planning

I would like to thank the College community for engaging with our recent MMG Community Survey. I engaged MMG to carry out a community-wide survey to provide the Board and Leadership Team with research-based insights to key stakeholders’ views, perceptions, expectations, and satisfaction with the College’s performance across key areas of its value proposition. This survey allows us to gain insight into stakeholder sentiment as we come to the final year of our current Towards 2025 Strategic Plan. The Towards 2025 Strategic Plan was launched in October of 2020 and showcased the shared vision, mission, and hope of our community through seven Strategic Pillars to take our community up until the end of 2024. Based on the strong and very positive feedback from our community, it has reinforced for us the success of this plan’s strategic framework. This document has underpinned the setting of goals, along with strategies and actions leading to continued improvement and growth at our College.

Throughout 2024, our College community will be invited to once again journey together to develop our next Strategic Plan. I am so excited for this process to help set the vision and plan to take our community through its next stage of development.

STEM Learning Hub Update

You will no doubt have noticed we continue to edge ever closer to our new STEM Learning Hub Building being ready for use. It has been a wonderful experience and I feel so blessed to have journeyed together with an incredible project team, consisting of M3 Architecture, RCP Project Management and Hutchinson Builders, along with an array of subcontractors and consultants.

The project is due for completion in early November, and we are thrilled to know this incredible facility will be in full use by staff and students from the beginning of 2024. As construction has taken place, the slow reveal of the many and varied features of this building have provided so much delight. Most recently the external brick and tiled façade has been unveiled. This façade was expertly designed by the team at M3 Architecture to highlight the beauty and importance of the ocean to this community. In fact, with this strong vision at the heart, the way these thermal regulating tiles have reflected the calming colours of the ocean, alongside impressive horizontal and vertical brick features and cool breeze capturing stairwells and entrance ways has brought science to life in both its design and functionality.

I am looking forward to more regularly updating our community as the project ends.

Staffing Updates

Cameran Triffett, Deputy Principal will be taking some well-deserved long service leave from Week 5 of this term, and I am very grateful to Katie de Carteret, Director of Boarding who is able to step up once again into the role as Acting Deputy Principal and Gemma Stevens, Deputy Head of Boarding, who is able to carry out the role of Director of Boarding for Cameran’s leave period.

We sadly farewelled Catherine Rentoule, Head of Careers & VET, who had dedicated just shy of 15 years of service to this College community. I am pleased to announce that Camille Flores will be acting in the role of Head of Careers and VET for Term 4, 2023 while the recruitment process is undertaken to fill the ongoing position from 2024 at the College. I am also very grateful to Lorraine Kennedy, Hospitality Teacher, who is able to return to take some classes for Camille.

I am really pleased to welcome Melissa Harris, a highly experienced Senior English and Junior Humanities Teacher to our College who will be assisting with classes across these faculty areas.

We have also warmly welcomed Jade Stanley, our new College Nurse. Jade brings a beautiful energy and passion, along with considerable experience working in regional Victoria and Queensland in the health sector.

Sadly, we will farewell Emma Dobbins, Teacher Aide in a few weeks as she looks to complete her final University teaching practicum to finalise her studies.

You may have noticed slight adjustments to your daughter’s timetable and/or teachers, and I sincerely thank parents and students for their understanding in this regard. Minimising learning disruption is always our top priority, however at times teacher changes are necessary, for a variety of reasons.
