Year 5 Camp

Year 5 Camp

To the icy Southern Highlands travelled Year 5 on Wednesday, 17 May to take part in a challenging and exciting camp experience at Tallong Outdoor Education and Retreat Centre. The three days away provided the girls with many opportunities to step outside zones of comfort, develop leadership skills and independence, build and strengthen friendships and, of course, have plenty of fun.

From the flying fox to mountain biking, from high ropes to canoeing, the girls discovered that many of the learning dispositions we have been encouraging inside the classroom can be applied outdoors, too. We witnessed the girls collaborating with group members, displaying courage when facing their fears and demonstrating persistence when their canoes ended up in the reeds, despite their best steering efforts!

The girls were treated to a screening of the original Muppet Movie on the first night and were lucky enough to participate in a Q & A session with one of its stars, Kermit the Frog! On our final night, undeterred by the freezing temperatures, the girls braved the elements to sit by the fire and reflect on their camp experience while enjoying watching the embers dance into the night.
