Year 10 and 11 Art students are eligible to apply and students have been emailed Application Forms.
The Art Captain is a new role instituted last year and is a special position that requires special skills, values and attitudes. We are looking for a student who can do the following and more!
- Invent and co-ordinate art related activities and events that engage students across the Secondary School
- Lead others and form sub committees to organise Art related events and activities
- Make speeches and announcements in Assemblies and at Openings and exhibitions
- Write for, support and engage with the SCOPE Art magazine team
- Liaise with the Visual Arts Department regularly
If you would like to apply, please complete the application and forward it to Ms Jackson by Friday of Week 1 in Term 4.
Interviews will be held in Term 4 and the position will be announced and commence in Week 3.
We take this opportunity to thank Jade Brennan who is our outgoing Captain for 2024. Her excellent efforts and initiative distinguished her in this role. We could not have asked for a more outstanding inaugural Captain, she has set the bar high approaching all aspects of the role in a calm and level headed manner and her organisational skills and maturity were assets. We trust that she will use many of the skills and attitudes gained in her studies of Art to flourish in her future beyond SCEGGS.
With our best wishes and gratitude Jade!

Ashley Marie Marcos Award
Applications for The Ashley Marie Marcos Award are now open for 2024. This award is open to all Year 11 Visual Arts students.
Ashley Marie Marcos is an Old Girl (Class of 2004) who generously supports a Year 11 Visual Arts student in applying for a short course to explore, develop, or learn skills and techniques to assist with the development of their Year 12 artwork. This is usually undertaken during the holiday period between Years 11 and 12 so students can apply what they have learned in Year 12.
The value of this award is $500. This can be used to fund all or part of a course. Students need to nominate which specific course they will be attending in their application and how this will help develop and extend skills in relation to making the Body of Work in Year 12. The criteria and application form has been emailed to students.
We encourage all Year 11 Art students to apply!
Applications close: Monday September 9
Last year’s recipient says:
Receiving the Ashley Marie Marcos Award, I was able to attend a term long painting course in Term 4 of Year 11 at NAS which crucially enabled me to further develop my painting skills. I had the opportunity to experiment with my ideas and inspirations in which I applied my newfound knowledge into the development and creation of my Body of Work. This course enabled me to regain my passion for creating art as I gained new confidence. Meeting with Ashley in Term 1 of Year 12 provided me with an opportunity to learn from her life experiences and further discuss my directions for my work. I am deeply grateful that Ashley gave me this experience as I have fostered new ideas about art practice.
