Tildesley Shield

The Tildesley Shield was held at Pennant Hills Hill Tennis Centre last week. Established in 1918, the Tildesley Tennis Shield is Australia’s oldest and most prestigious tennis tournaments for independent girls’ schools, held annually in Sydney.

Congratulations to our 2026 Tildesley Tennis Shield team who brought both their best tennis and their loudest cheers throughout the competition last week. The girls trained hard for months in the lead-up, and the week was defined by energy, team spirit, and blue and white with “SCEGGS is RED HOT!” heard throughout.

This year, SCEGGS climbed three places to 14th overall in the rankings – an excellent result and a testament to the team’s hard work and the support from Mrs Moar and Miss Barr, along with coaches Justin, Vince and Francois, and Old Girls Octavia and Isabella.

Highlights:

Singles

  • Emilia Laban (Year 7) – Round 4
  • Miwa Gentile (Year 7) – Round 3
  • Claudine Hambly (Year 12) – Round 3
  • Eliza Dyki (Year 11) – Round 2

NSW Athletics

We celebrate some more outstanding results from the NSW Junior State Championships:

  • Annabelle Jessup (Year 10) placed 5th in the U16 3000m
  • Lily Cooney (Year 12) placed 5th in the U20 3000m
  • Stasia Serafin (Year 7) placed 3rd in the 12 years 100m.

At the NSW Open Athletics Championships on the weekend Matilda Emanuel (Year 12) placed third in the Open 800m. This was Matilda’s first State Open Medal with a personal best time of 2:07.76.

It is terrific seeing Lily and Matilda who are in Year 12 achieving on the track as well as in the classroom. Both students have demonstrated the importance of maintaining fitness and balance whilst juggling academic studies.

All girls have qualified for the Australian Championships to be held in Brisbane in the April holidays.

IGSA Hockey

Congratulations to Jess Weatherall in Year 12 who was selected in the IGSA Open Hockey Team to compete at the NSWCIS Hockey Championships in April. Aurelia Ruberto (Year 11) was also shortlisted

Giselle Wharton (Year 8) and Maddie Soulos (Year 9) attended the U15 trials also.

Surf Lifesaving

Congratulations to Emily Snow and Clementine Finlayson who both competed at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships that were held on the Gold Coast last weekend.

  • Emily finished 4th in the flags and won the Gold Medal in the mixed beach relay team.
  • Clementine won a Silver Medal in the 2 x 1km sand race and 5th in the 2km sand race.

Well done also to Stasia Serafin (Year 7) who competed at the 2026 Surf Life Saving NSW Age Championships (Nippers), where she achieved silver in the U12 Beach Sprints. She also stepped up an age group to anchor the U13 girls relay team, helping secure a bronze medal for her club.

In the Spotlight

Elspeth Herbert (Year 11) and Scarlett White (Year 11)

The Primary School were fortunate to have Cross Country Captain Elspeth Herbert, along with keen participant Scarlett White, join in the excitement of their Carnival on Tuesday 10 March. Both students generously stayed after their Senior event to assist, running multiple circuits of the Queens Park course alongside the Primary girls.

Their presence was greatly appreciated, with many students enjoying the opportunity to run with and be supported by senior role models. Elspeth and Scarlett also attended the Primary Assembly in Week 8 to present trophies and ribbons to the winning competitors.

Thank you to both students for giving their time so willingly – another wonderful example of students giving back to the sporting community at SCEGGS.

Sophie Davis (Class 2023)

Old Girl and current coach Sophie Davis attended the Australian Emus Touch Football Training Camp in Brisbane from Friday 20 – Sunday 22 March.

We are incredibly proud of Sophie’s selection in the national squad following her outstanding performance at the National Touch League Championships earlier this month in Coffs Harbour. Sophie was a part of the championship-winning Southern Rebels team that took home their maiden title in the women’s opens division. Sophie was also a key member of the Eastern Suburbs women’s team that won the Premier League division of the Vawdon Cup in November; the club’s first in over a decade.

Sophie is a highly respected coach within the SCEGGS Touch community, consistently demonstrating leadership, expertise and commitment. Her impact is evident in the success of the teams she coaches, most recently guiding three teams to grand finals in the Easts Term 1 school competition with two victorious.

 Congratulations Sophie.
