Striders

We would also like to share a photo from the Striders early morning run last week around the local area. This is where the joy of running all starts at the grass roots level. We run at a leisurely pace and everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Please speak with Ms Thompson if you would like to come and give Striders a try.

Sailing

Well done to Isobel Payne (Year 11) who competed at Newcastle in the first round of the Interclub Challenge. Created in 2001, the Interclub Challenge is a fleet racing series contested by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club and Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron with each Club hosting a stage of the series. Each stage consists of up to two teams from each Club, participating in a maximum of six races at each venue.

Newcastle Harbour is known for its shifty and quick-changing conditions, and the Sunday was no exception. The starting line was a competitive and aggressive environment for each race, with a mixture of fleet management and getting to the wind first. Isobel was the skipper of the team from Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron who won the day with four wins in six races, ahead of the team from CYCA and NCYC. Isobel credits her experienced team with superior boat handling for their success, but all were in new positions on somewhat unfamiliar boats. The team are looking forward to Round 2 later in June at the RSYS.

SCEGGS Arounds the Grounds

Lola Hush (Year 10) and Tessa McCarthy (Year 12) had the wonderful opportunity of training with Matilda superstar Ellie Carpenter during the week. At the conclusion of training, they then attended a Q & A session with Ellie and even managed a photo opportunity.  What a fabulous experience!  We look forward to watching to cheering on the Matildas in their bid for an Olympic medal in Paris.
