Saturday Sport

What a splendid morning it was last Saturday for sport with sunny skies greeting us. Unfortunately, Year 3 Touch Football games were cancelled due to field closures after a heavy week of rain. Both IPSHA Minkey/Hockey teams played at MLC school and one of the highlights from the weekend was the thrilling win from the combined Years 5/6 team who scored in the last minute of the game to take the win. Madeleine Chirakis (Year 5) was on fire with her shooting and scored an excellent goal after some slick passing by the team. Special mention to Jasmine Loa in the 4A game, who managed a goal in her team’s loss against Tara. At training, the girls received some tips from some of the secondary Hockey girls.

To build on National Reconciliation Week, this Saturday is the IPSHA Indigenous Sport Round. Each student will be celebrating and acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in different ways, including an Acknowledgement of Country and playing an Indigenous game to warm up. Students will also be given a ribbon to wear with the artwork created by Glen Ella, an Indigenous man from Yuin Country. The artwork of circular symbols on the ribbon represents meeting places, where Traditional Owners would gather to share knowledge. Proceeds from the purchase of the ribbons will go to the Community Spirit Foundation who work in partnership with remote First Nations communities.
