Term 1 Saturday Sport Wraps Up

Year 3 Basketball

The Year 3 SCEGGS Basketball competition in Term 1 has been a fantastic introduction to the sport for many of our girls. With three teams – SCEGGS Yellow, SCEGGS Blue and SCEGGS White – it has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork each week. A highlight of the season has been the way all three teams have trained cohesively as a group, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all girls. This has provided a valuable opportunity for the girls to settle into Year 3 and build strong connections between new and existing students.

Across the season, all players demonstrated impressive improvement in their basketball skills, particularly with more consistent shooting, ball control and the development of some very strong defensive strategies. It has been especially pleasing to see the girls grow in confidence and game awareness as the Term progressed.

Most rewarding has been witnessing so many girls develop a genuine love for basketball and a desire to continue playing in whatever capacity they can. The coaching staff have thoroughly enjoyed working with such a positive and engaged group of students, who have represented the school with great spirit each weekend. We look forward to welcoming them back to basketball as they continue through their primary years.

Thank you to Mrs Carter and the Basketball coaches for their efforts in supporting the teams.

IPSHA Water Polo

The IPSHA Water Polo team was comprised of students in Years 5 and 6. All players were highly committed and greatly improved their skills throughout the Term. They worked on being strong in the water with ‘eggbeater’ kick, improved their ball skills, and developed their understanding of the game, especially when defending. The team was highly competitive and came away with two wins, two losses, and one draw. In Round 6, the team played the full game without any reserves, showing grit and determination and modelling the SCEGSG Sports Values. Many of the girls have also expressed an interest in continuing their involvement in Water Polo at club level. Congratulations to the team on a successful term!

Thank you to Sophie and Claudia for their efforts in coaching and supporting the Water Polo team this term.

Primary Football Competition

It was a great ending to the Primary Football competition on Saturday.

Both Year 6 teams finished the season with strong performances. SCEGGS 1 wrapped up what has been a very successful term with a confident 3–0 victory over Kincoppal. SCEGGS 2 was finally rewarded for weeks of competitive performances, securing a well-deserved 2–0 win against Wenona. It was wonderful to see their hard work in training and on previous game days pay off. Although it is not all about winning it was great to see them finish the Term on such a positive note.

The Year 5 teams have also shown impressive development as the term has progressed. Their recent matches highlight just how far they have come with several close and competitive games. SCEGGS 5 ended the season with an impressive 4–1 victory over Newington, a win that had been building over the past few weeks.

The Year 4 teams have also been a delight to watch. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to learn have shone through each week. All three teams have grown in confidence, developed their understanding of the game and consistently supported one another on the field. Their positive attitude and steady improvement have been a real highlight of the season.

Thank you to Mr Bradley and the team of Football coaches for their efforts in supporting all the Football teams.
