Music Matters

Musicale 2 – Thursday 12 May 5.30pm The Great Hall

We are pleased to be presenting our second ensemble performance on Thursday 12 May at 5.30pm.  The following ensembles will be performing:

• String Power
• Stringalong
• Amati Strings
• Lux Strings
• Holst Wind Ensemble
• Basie Jazz Band
• Choir
• Contemporary Vocal Ensemble
• Glennie Percussion Ensemble

Performers will need to arrive at the Diana Bowman site promptly at 5:00pm to warm up in readiness for the performance.

A reminder for families of Primary school students who will require Afterschool Care to make their bookings. Students who are performing will be collected by members of the Music staff from ASC around 4:30pm.

String Studio Concerts – Week 5

String players will perform in String Studio Concerts to be held in Week 5 on Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May, beginning at 3:20pm in the Primary Music Room. We are excited to be able to welcome parents onsite to provide an enthusiastic and appreciative audience for these concerts. Families can choose which day suits their schedule for their daughter to perform, either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Girls will be encouraged to announce their piece, perform and bow at the end. Performance opportunities of this nature, in a supportive and non-threatening environment, are vital to a musician’s development. String tutors will work with each girl in her lesson over the coming weeks to prepare a solo piece to perform. Please indicate your daughter’s participation via the following link.

AMEB String Examinations

30 string players are enrolled to sit AMEB practical examinations onsite at SCEGGS this term for Violin, Viola and Cello. Mrs Sweeney will be in touch with parents regarding examination scheduling over two dates – Saturday 28 May and Saturday 4 June. Girls will be accompanied by Ms Stephanie Holmes or Ms Heidi Jones for rehearsals at school and on the exam day. Daily home practise is essential to thoroughly prepare for these national music examinations. Please remind your daughter to maintain a consistent home practice routine over the coming weeks.

Training Band Mentors

It was lovely for the following secondary students to come along to Training Band and mentor the young Primary musicians.  Thank you to Christine Chen (Trumpet – Year 9), Lara Greenfield (Percussion – Year 11), Anwen Kidston (Clarinet – Year 12) and Samantha Millin (French Horn – Year 9) for your assistance.  Thank you also to Mr Michael Tierney for facilitating this mentoring for Training Band.
