Car Line Reminders for a Safe and Smooth Afternoon Pick-up
Dear Parents and Carers
As we move through the term, we would like to offer a few gentle reminders about afternoon pick-up procedures at the Bourke Street Car Line. These routines are in place to ensure the process remains safe, efficient and respectful for everyone in our community.
To support this, we kindly ask you to take note of the following:
Car Line Expectations
- Stay in your vehicle at all times during pick-up. Teachers will bring your daughter to your car and assist her safely inside.
- Keep the line moving by moving forward as space becomes available.
- Do not leave your car and wait at the school gate, as this disrupts traffic flow and delays the process for others.
- Avoid arriving early if you are collecting a student in Years 3-6. Their dismissal time begins at 3.10pm and early arrival creates congestion while K-2 students are still being collected. If you arrive too early, you may be asked to move around the block to help keep Car Line flowing and the dismissal of the K-2 students.
- Display your daughter’s name sign clearly in the windscreen. If you need one, please contact the Primary Office.
- Join the queue from the northern end of Bourke Street and refrain from double parking or jumping the queue.
- Encourage your daughter to enter the car from the kerb side with her bag. It is safer and quicker to place bags inside the front or back seats, rather than the boot.
- Avoid taking phone calls while in Car Line to ensure your full attention is on the safety of all students.
- Use the pedestrian crossing on Bourke Street if approaching or leaving on foot.
Managing Car Line in Wet Weather
When it rains, Car Line can take a little longer than usual. Please know that staff are doing their best to get each child safely and promptly into their car while also keeping them dry and calm. They will bring your daughter to you as quickly as possible. We kindly ask that you continue to move up the line as this expectation remains in place even in wet weather.
A Note on Student Supervision and the Dismissal Routine for K-2
Teachers will continue to walk the girls past the driveway and ask them to line up along the wall before handing them over. This routine is far easier to manage when parents either:
- Remain in their vehicles, waiting for a staff member to bring their daughter to the car,
or
- If on foot, walk up with the teachers and collect their daughter from the designated dismissal area.
We kindly ask that everyone is respectful and patient to our teachers on duty. Your courtesy sets a wonderful example for our children and helps maintain a calm and cooperative atmosphere at these busy times of day.
We appreciate your patience, cooperation and support in helping to reinforce these expectations. A shared commitment to these routines helps keep everyone safe and ensures the afternoon runs smoothly for all.
