A new space on the Primary Playground
The Primary School playground is a joyful, busy place, with lots of activities and games that the girls enjoy during recess and lunch each day. It’s fast paced, with games of handball, survivor tag and skipping everywhere you look! However, over the last while, we have increasingly identified a need for a quieter, calmer space, where girls might be able to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the main playground, to enjoy some more mindful, slower paced activities.
This term, we have launched the new “Calm Zone” in the Primary School, which has opened in the Library Courtyard. It is open in the second half of lunch each day, with the aim of providing a quieter area where individual girls, or small groups, might come together to engage with one another in a less busy place. On offer we have activities such as mindful colouring, origami, beading and Lego. A teacher is rostered to be on duty in this area to help facilitate new connections and conversations with like-minded peers across different year groups.
This new area is proving to be a huge success with the girls, who are forming new relationships, sharing ideas and perspectives and coming together in calmer, quieter environment.
