Entries for the 2026 Howard Drawing Prize are now open!
The Howard Tanner Drawing Prize is a SCEGGS special award for Drawing. It wil be presented on Speech Night by Ms Gyton.
We encourage all students to submit work in any drawing media on any subject and on any scale.
Eligible entrants are students in Years 7 to 11.
The Prize was founded by Architect Howard Tanner to encourage and celebrate the skill of drawing. Students should think of drawing in its broadest stylistic forms, from expressive to realistic, to observational to imaginative and in drawing media from lead and coloured pencil to charcoal, pen or ink. Consider line, tone and mark making as the fundamental drawing components. Students can be as experimental or formal as they like in their approach. To honour the intentions of Howard Tanner, no works created by digital means are accepted for this Prize.
An exhibition of finalist’s drawings will be displayed in JF1 in Term 4.

Students can hand in up to three drawings to Ms Jackson in the art staffroom at any time from now until the deadline of the first Friday of Term 4: 16 October by 9.00am.
Please make sure your name and your year is clearly marked on the back of your drawing/s.

Applications are open for the role of Art Captain
Criteria: Years 10 and 11 students currently studying Art.
Eligible students have received their application forms, and these are due back via email to Ms Jackson by the 1st Friday of term 4: 16th October by 9.00am.
Applications are also open for the Ashley Marie Marcos Award
Applications for The Ashley Marie Marcos Award are now open for 2026/27. This award is open to all current Year 11 Visual Arts students.
Ashley Marie Marcos is an Old Girl (CLASS of 2004) who generously supports a Year 11 Visual Arts student in applying for a short course to explore, develop, or learn skills and techniques to assist with the development of their Year 12 artwork. Usually the course is undertaken at the end of Year 11 so students can apply what they have learned once they commence Year 12.
The value of this award is $800.00. This can be used to fund all or part of a course. Students need to nominate which specific course they will be attending in their application and how this will help develop and extend skills in relation to making the Body of Work in Year 12. The criteria and application form has been emailed to students.
We encourage ALL Year 11 Art students to apply! 😊
Applications close: Monday September 7.
Finally, please don’t forget the HSC Visual Arts Body of Work Exhibition opens tonight with speeches commencing at 5.30 pm. Looking forward to seeing you all there to celebrate the achievements of the class of 2026.
