A HUGE thank you to everyone who made the Festival on Forbes such a great day last Sunday!

Our team of parent volunteers, led by Carrie, Niamh, the Fair Committee and the P&F team, did a truly amazing job of transforming the School into a fun, festive and welcoming place for all. Thank you to everyone who helped, supported, donated, went shopping, helped set up, ironed the bunting, helped pack up and generally just said a friendly hello to all who came through the gates. It felt to me like another example of the SCEGGS community at its best – so a big thank you from me to you all for making it happen!

For me, the smiles throughout the day said it all … from the very youngest to the somewhat-less-young-than-they-used-to-be …. it was a great day for our whole community.

Parent Satisfaction Survey

As you might be aware, SCEGGS conducts a comprehensive survey of parents every second year to gain your feedback and comment on the school and the education we provide. All parents are invited to participate and we have again commissioned Ipsos Marketing to conduct the Parent Satisfaction Survey this term.

The survey will take place over the coming weeks, and Ipsos will send you an email directly next week with details of how to access the online survey.

We would genuinely like to hear from all families in the 2026 wave of this survey! You all have individual experiences of the School and so all have an important part to play in helping us to understand what is working well from your point of view, and what we might need to keep working on. So all views and ideas will all be very gratefully received. The overall results of this survey will continue to provide input into the planning process for the school moving forward, and a report of the results will be provided to all current parents via the Parent Portal when the results are in.

While the email will come directly from Ipsos, please know that your email address will NOT be kept by Ipsos beyond the SCEGGS survey window and will not be used by Ipsos for any other purposes. Sustainable Snack: A Primary School Enviro Girls Initiative

This term, our Enviro Girls have launched Sustainable Snack, a new student-led initiative designed to reduce unnecessary waste across the Primary School and encourage more sustainable everyday habits.

The initiative grew from the girls’ desire to identify practical ways our Primary community can make a difference. They recognised that morning snack time provides one small but very tangible opportunity: across hundreds of girls, reducing even one piece of single-use packaging each day has the potential to significantly reduce the waste we generate over time.

The idea is deliberately simple. For their morning snack, girls are encouraged to bring something that creates little or no waste. This might be fresh fruit or vegetables, or snacks such as crackers, popcorn or homemade treats packed in reusable containers, lunchboxes or beeswax wraps, rather than individually packaged items. There is an added benefit too, with morning snack providing a good opportunity for girls to choose nutritious ‘brain food’ to fuel their learning.

Importantly, the Enviro Girls want Sustainable Snack to create a culture, rather than a competition. We know that lasting change is more likely to come when sustainable choices become habitual, rather than something we do for a prize or reward. For this reason, there will be no tallies, prizes or incentives, nor will lunchboxes be policed. Instead, the focus will be on building awareness, encouraging thoughtful choices and helping the girls understand that small individual actions, when adopted collectively, can have a meaningful impact.

Our hope is that, over time, bringing a waste-free morning snack will simply become part of what we do at SCEGGS.

We would greatly appreciate the support of our Primary families in helping the girls establish this new routine. Sustainable Snack is a relatively small change, but that is precisely the point: when a community makes thoughtful choices consistently, small actions can add up to a significant difference.

SCEGGS P&F ‘Magical Carnival’ Primary School Discos

The SCEGGS P&F ‘Magical Carnival’ Primary Discos will be held on Friday, 11 September in the Great Hall.

Event Times

• Kindergarten to Year 3 from 3.30pm to 5.00pm
• Years 4 to 6 from 6.00pm to 7.30pm

By now, you should have received an email with full event details, including a reminder for girls to bring their own water bottle and the TryBooking link for ticket purchases.

Bookings close on Friday 4 September.

Joan Freeman (JF) Car Park

The JF Car Park accessible via St Peter’s Street will be open for parent use during both drop-off and collection times. Please note that the car park is available for short-term parking only while dropping off or collecting your daughter.

To ensure parking is available for families of girls attending the Years 4 to 6 Disco, parents collecting from the Kindergarten to Year 3 Disco are asked to vacate the car park by 5.30pm.

The car park will close promptly at 8.00pm following the conclusion of the Years 4 to 6 Disco.

Kindergarten to Year 3 Arrangements

Students in Kindergarten to Year 3 will go directly to the disco at the end of the school day and do not require parent drop-off.

Girls should bring their disco clothes from home and will change in their classrooms before the event. Teachers will assist students to get ready, accompany them to the Great Hall and supervise the disco.

Years 4 to 6 Drop-off Arrangements

Parents are asked to park their vehicle and walk their daughter to the Great Hall.

Students will be supervised by staff for the duration of the disco.

For the safety of all students and families:

• Please remain within designated areas and do not pass under any safety tape or barriers.
• Students must not be dropped off at or near the pedestrian crossing.

Collection Arrangements

Parents are required to park their vehicle and collect their daughter from her designated collection point.

Families with more than one daughter attending the same event are encouraged to collect their youngest daughter first.

Kindergarten to Year 3

Please collect your daughter at 5.00pm from the following location:

• Kindergarten and Year 1: Great Hall, access via the side door on St Peter’s Street
• Year 2: DB Courtyard, via the gate on St Peter’s Street, behind the Great Hall
• Year 3: Foyer of the JF Building, access via the glass doors

Years 4 to 6

Please collect your daughter at 7.30pm from the following location:

• Year 4: Great Hall, access via the side door on St Peter’s Street
• Year 5: DB Courtyard, via the gate on St Peter’s Street, behind the Great Hall
• Year 6: Foyer of the JF Building, access via the glass doors

Entries for the 2026 Howard Drawing Prize are now open!

The Howard Tanner Drawing Prize is a SCEGGS special award for Drawing. It wil be presented on Speech Night by Ms Gyton.

We encourage all students to submit work in any drawing media on any subject and on any scale.

Eligible entrants are students in Years 7 to 11.

The Prize was founded by Architect Howard Tanner to encourage and celebrate the skill of drawing. Students should think of drawing in its broadest stylistic forms, from expressive to realistic, to observational to imaginative and in drawing media from lead and coloured pencil to charcoal, pen or ink. Consider line, tone and mark making as the fundamental drawing components. Students can be as experimental or formal as they like in their approach. To honour the intentions of Howard Tanner, no works created by digital means are accepted for this Prize.

An exhibition of finalist’s drawings will be displayed in JF1 in Term 4.

Here are some examples from SCEGGS students past and present:

Students can hand in up to three drawings to Ms Jackson in the art staffroom at any time from now until the deadline of the first Friday of Term 4: 16 October by 9.00am.

Please make sure your name and your year is clearly marked on the back of your drawing/s.

Applications are open for the role of Art Captain

Criteria: Years 10 and 11 students currently studying Art.

Eligible students have received their application forms, and these are due back via email to Ms Jackson by the 1st Friday of term 4: 16^th October by 9.00am.

Applications are also open for the Ashley Marie Marcos Award

Applications for The Ashley Marie Marcos Award are now open for 2026/27. This award is open to all current Year 11 Visual Arts students.

Ashley Marie Marcos is an Old Girl (CLASS of 2004) who generously supports a Year 11 Visual Arts student in applying for a short course to explore, develop, or learn skills and techniques to assist with the development of their Year 12 artwork. Usually the course is undertaken at the end of Year 11 so students can apply what they have learned once they commence Year 12.

The value of this award is $800.00. This can be used to fund all or part of a course. Students need to nominate which specific course they will be attending in their application and how this will help develop and extend skills in relation to making the Body of Work in Year 12. The criteria and application form has been emailed to students.

We encourage ALL Year 11 Art students to apply! 😊

HSC Examination Supervisors Needed

We are in need of parents or Old Girls who are interested in supervising HSC exams in Term 4. No previous experience is necessary. For security reasons, an individual who has a child or near relative sitting the HSC Examinations this year are not eligible for appointment as a paid supervisor nor are those who completed the HSC in 2025. Those acting as supervisors will require a paid Working with Children Check which is obtained through Services NSW.

The HSC starts on Tuesday 13 October and finishes on Thursday 5 November.  Shifts can be morning or afternoon and are various in length. If you are interested in supervising this year you must be available to work on Tuesday 13 October, Wednesday 14 October and Monday 19 October in the morning. These are the busiest days, and we will need a large number of supervisors.

Please contact Phil Rogers, our Director of Administration if you are interested in becoming an examination supervisor. He will pass on your details to our Presiding Officer, Mrs Alison Gavan, who will be happy to answer any queries you may have about the role.

Primary Sport News

Around the Grounds

IPSHA AFL, Touch and Year 3 Netball continued last Saturday, and there were so many fantastic performances and examples of girls shining their light.

In IPSHA Touch, special mention to Ms Thompson’s team, who played an outstanding game against MLC, narrowly going down by just one try in an incredibly close contest. The team played exceptionally well and special mention to Alexandra Hackett (Year 6) for her excellent defensive efforts. Our Year 4 teams had a successful morning, including both the SCEGGS 4 and SCEGGS 5 teams continuing their unbeaten runs.

The IPSHA AFL team faced Redlands in a highly competitive match. Redlands took an early lead, but our girls showed excellent determination and fighting spirit to work their way back into the game and secure an impressive victory.

Our Year 3 Netball teams played their second round, with Ms Tucker impressed by the excellent ball movement and teamwork demonstrated by all three teams. The SCEGGS Yellow team displayed particularly strong shooting, scoring an impressive 12 goals against Kambala Black.

State Snowsports Championships

The State Snowsports Championships took place last week at Perisher, with three Primary students representing SCEGGS: Eleanor Brown (Year 4), Emily Yeung (Year 5) and Hannah Walker (Year 6). The girls performed brilliantly and represented the school with great pride. Thank you to Ms Gowan for supporting the girls at the event. A special congratulations to Hannah Walker, who placed 5th in Division 4 Cross Country Classic. She has now qualified to compete at the Australian Championships next week. Congratulations to Hannah.

Student Achievements

A dedicated group of Year 1 girls have spent the season playing AFL with the Moore Park Tigers. They are the club’s inaugural Under 7 Girls team and have had a wonderful experience throughout the season.

The girls played their final game on Saturday and finished the season on a high with a fantastic win against the Bulldogs. It was a wonderful way to finish what has been a memorable season for the girls.

To celebrate, the team enjoyed a well-deserved end-of-season celebration over Yum Cha, a lovely way to recognise their efforts, friendship and enthusiasm throughout the season!

Australian Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to our SCEGGS elite running team who competed at the Australian Cross Country Championships that were held in Ballarat last week. The course was a real test of endurance after days of heavy rain turned it into an absolute mud fest.

All our students achieved some excellent results despite battling injuries, thick mud and HSC studies:

Head Coach Rachel and Coach Madison (SCEGGS Old Girl) are so pleased with the way the gymnasts showed their skills, but more importantly, shared their joy and enjoyment with the supportive audience.

Water Polo

A big shout out to Sophia Carroll (Year 10) who has had a very busy year with her Water Polo.

Sophia was selected in the Australian Under 16 Water Polo Squad earlier this year. She trained as part of the national program in the lead-up to selection of the team for the World Championships.

She then represented Sydney University Water Polo Club at the Australian Youth Championships (AYC), where her team won the U16s title.

Sophia also travelled to the United States to compete at the Junior Olympics/US National championships where she competed against leading junior water polo teams from across the USA where her team ended up placing 9th.

She is currently training with the NSW U17 team for the National Championships. Sophia has seen significant progression in her development as a player and we are excited to see Sophia in action for SCEGGS in Term 4.

City 2 Surf

Congratulations to Clementine Finlayson (Year 7) who ran a scintillating 55.07 at the City 2 Surf. Clem placed 2nd in her age category (10-14) as well as the 38th female overall! Well done Clementine, we are so proud of your effort.

Golf

Congratulations to Sondrine Bethke (Year 11) who won the Men’s Comp at Bonnie Doon Golf Club last weekend. Even more remarkable was that Sondrine narrowly missed the course record by one shot after shooting an incredible 8 under!

NSW Snowsports

Congratulations to the 24 SCEGGS students who competed at the NSW Snowsports Championships that were held last week in Perisher.

The SCEGGS Cross Country team started the week with a training session with two time Olympian Lars Young Vik.

This was followed by several students competing in the NSW Schools Laser Biathlon with great success:

Due to windy and wet conditions, the Divison 2 Snowboard Cross and Division 3 Skier Cross were both cancelled with all competitions being invited through to Nationals. 16 competitors have qualified to compete at the Australian Championships next week despite deteriorating snow conditions. Netball

SCEGGS 8 Netball had a great win on Saturday under the watchful eye of Ms Gyton. They defeated PLC Sydney 30 -26.

A shout out to SCEGGS 15 who won a thrilling match against Tara on the weekend 13-12.  Coach Annie and Molly should be congratulated on their leadership and encouragement of this team. Saturday’s game was a stellar performance showing teamwork, persistence and sheer determination.  Both teams showed exemplary grace and played in the spirit of netball.

IGSA Athletics Carnival

Amazing memories were made at the IGSA Athletics Carnival,
Together we cheered, competed and celebrated every achievement.
Hard work paid off as athletes watched their dedication shine,
Laughter, chants and team activities like bedazzling strengthened our bond.
Electric energy filled the sunny stadium from start to finish,
Talented athletes inspired one another on the track and in the field.
Incredible opportunities to compete at Twilight Meets helped us grow in skill and confidence,
Crowned Division 3 Champions, we were proud to see SCEGGS do so well,
SCEGGS spirit sparkled in every race, every cheer and every smile!
