Primary Sport News
All Term 2 Saturday sport competitions begin this week. This term, we have two IPSHA Minkey/Hockey teams, six IPSHA Netball teams, and three Year 3 Touch Football teams entered into the respective competitions. Good luck to all teams for their first round of games, and a reminder that all players are expected to follow the SCEGGS Sports Values when representing the School at sport.
A few reminders for Saturday sport:
- Check Clipboard for all game and training times and locations.
- All players are expected to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
- In the case of any changes (such as wet weather), parents will be notified via Clipboard.
- Please provide teams space during games and team talks i.e. not standing in or close to the substitute area, being off the field/court during team talks and games etc.
- For any absences from Tuesday training sessions, please contact the relevant sports coordinator.
- For any absences from Saturday games, approved leave is needed from Mrs Demspsey at least one week prior to the game.
Also, a quick reminder for all parents and supporters of the following, taken from the IPSHA guidelines:
- Focus on the efforts and performance of the children rather than the result.
- Children play organised sports for fun. They are not playing for spectators’ entertainment, nor are they miniature professionals.
- Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the game’s outcome.
- Respect the officials’ decision.
- Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a competition.
- Positive comments are motivational and encourage continued effort.
- Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no game.
- Encourage players to follow the rules and the officials’ decisions.
- Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul language, or harassing players, coaches or officials.
- Comments should not interfere with the running of the game.
Year 1 AFL Team
A few Year 1 students have been heavily involved in AFL and play in a club team for the Moore Park Tigers. The girls kicked off their season last Saturday with a strong game against Maroubra Saints. The team had a positive start to the season, played well, and even scored a few goals. Another highlight for them was singing the team song at the end. Well done to the team and great to see them enjoying their AFL.

Important Sports Dates:
- Saturday 2 May: Year 3 Touch Football, IPSHA Minkey/Hockey and IPSHA Netball competitions commence (check Clipboard for times and locations).
- Thursday 18 June: Primary Athletics Carnival (K-6).
Have a wonderful week and all the best to all our Saturday sport teams for their first round!
