Public Speaking

Last week the first Dame Enid Lyons Oratory Competition was held and our very own Celia Watson (Year 12) won the final. She competed against nine other girls from private and public schools in Sydney with a choice of three quotes to speak on. Celia chose “When they go low, we go high” and delivered a thought provoking speech on the world we are living in at the moment and how we can make it a better place. She spoke for eight minutes with just 15 minutes preparation time and showed the amount of work she has put in to developing her public speaking skills throughout her time at SCEGGS. Celia spoke with confidence to an audience of hundreds of people in the Drama Theatre at the Sydney Opera House.

See Celia’s TV interview here.

Earlier that day the Governor General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC welcomed the competitors and teachers to Admiralty House to congratulate the girls and offer warm words of encouragement.

This is a wonderful competition for girls to participate in to further develop their skills and will be held again next year.
