Mondovision 2024
Despite the recent flurry of school activities, you might not expect students to find time for yet another school event. However, the diverse performances and the passion of the participants made it clear that there’s always room to captivate an audience with multilingual renditions of popular songs. Mondovision provides a platform for students studying Chinese, French, Latin, Japanese or Spanish as well as those eager to showcase other languages they speak. Once again, this year featured a wide range of participants, from Year 7 students performing in French to Year 12 students singing in Chinese, French and Japanese. The performers deserve praise for their creativity and the vibrant energy they brought to the stage. It was evident they thoroughly enjoyed singing in these languages.
This year, the teachers got in on the action as well during the judging break. The Music Department’s stunning rendition of “Nessun Dorma!” received a standing ovation, with a special shout-out to Ms Holmes for her impressive operatic skills. We were also treated to some singing and comedic flair from our very own ABBA (Ms Kidston, Ms Saxton, Mr Eyers and Mr Hanson), performing “Chiquitita” in Spanish! The talent at Mondovision truly knows no bounds.
A big thank you goes to Ms Wymer, Ms Axford, and Mr Hainsworth for their expert judging. Their task wasn’t easy, but they awarded first place to the fantastic Year 12 group of students who performed “Aux Champs-Elysées” in French. Congratulations to Isabelle Barlow, Teagan Barrack, Gabrielle Cunningham, Sybilla Hooke, Gabrielle Papas, Ilana Patkar, Julia Richards, Isabella Stern, Bella Talib, Lucy Thomsen and Alexia Yuile for standing out with excellent French pronunciation, joyful singing and fun choreography!
Thank you to everyone who auditioned and performed—we loved all your acts and hope to see many of you again next year. Special thanks to Year 11 Camille McCarthy and Julia Piazza for being wonderful hosts!
