Welcome to Term 3!

It was simply joyful to see our girls back yesterday, commemorating our 129th birthday in the usual SCEGGS way with a meaningful Foundation Day Assembly followed by birthday cupcakes!

I was also delighted to welcome back to SCEGGS Julie McCrossin from the Class of 1971, as our Assembly guest speaker, who regaled the girls and staff with the life lessons SCEGGS taught her. Julie spoke about the intellectual curiosity and enrichment SCEGGS nurtured within her, the passionate teachers who imbued Julie and her peers with an enduring love of particular subjects and co-curricular pursuits and encouraged the girls to try lots of different things as many of her experiences then profoundly shaped her life today. Julie also talked about the lifelong friendships made at school, which now, over 50 years later, are still active!

Pleasingly we have hit “rock bottom” with the Wilkinson House redevelopment. The sandstone excavation between Wilkinson House and the Sports Hall is now complete and the well for the lift is being prepared. As you can see from the photos below, the walls are being propped up by the steel columns, with the concrete slab on the bottom level to be poured later this term. The good news is that there will be less noise and vibration and each milestone brings us one step closer to a revitalised Wilkinson House.

On Monday, we will come together as a community again to acknowledge NAIDOC Week which occurred during the school holidays. Our Assembly and activities throughout the week provide an invaluable opportunity to learn, engage and celebrate together.

A major highlight this term (and indeed the year!) is the Festival on Forbes on Monday 25 August. Our intrepid Festival on Forbes Committee are planning a wonderful day for the whole community – I hope to see you there!

My best wishes to you all for a great term ahead!
