2023 Australian Rowing Championships, Perth
Pymble Senior Rowers have spent the last week competing at Champion Lakes in Perth, as part of the 2023 Australian Rowing Championships. The team competed on multiple fronts, entering several events in which to test themselves against the very best rowers from around Australia.
The 1st Eight had a big week of racing, having raced a heat, repechage, and Semi-final. They finished the week on a high by winning the B-Final ranking 7th overall of the Schoolgirl’s Coxed Eight event, a fantastic achievement! Well done to Jessica Colbran (Year 12), Tilly Morgan (Year 12), Mia Booth (Year 11), Megan Wood (Year 11), Charlotte Hartin (Year 12), Holly Craig (Year 11), Catherine Walker (Year 11), Alessandra Braysich (Year 11) and Coxswain Serena Leung (Year 12).
Mia Booth, Jess Colbran, Megan Wood, and Tilly Morgan also competed in the Under 19 Women’s Quadruple Scull. They had a strong start by winning their heat in impressive fashion, before achieving bronze with a 3rd place finish in the final, beating some very fast composite crews from around the country. An excellent achievement, well done Pymble Rowers!
Skye Pockley (Year 11) and Lucy Miller (Year 12) had a great run in the Under 19 Women’s Double Scull event, having raced three times, their brilliant run ended with a 5th place finish in the Semi-final against a tough field, narrowly missing out on the final.
Charlotte Hartin (Year 12), Holly Craig (Year 11), Catherine Walker (Year 11), Alessandra Braysich (Year 11) and Serena Leung (Year 12) competed in the Under 19 Women’s Four, producing a cracking finish in the heat in which they rowed through an experienced Canberra Girls Grammar School crew to finish 3rd in the Semi-final, narrowly missing out on the final.
A big congratulations to Liesel Page (Year 12) who had a very successful Nationals campaign competing for Sydney Rowing Club and New South Wales. Liesel won an incredible four events: the Under 23 Lightweight Women’s Quadruple Scull, the Under 21 Women’s Double Scull and the Under 19 Women’s Quadruple Scull. Finally. Liesel was selected into the New South Wales Women’s Youth Eight, coming first in the Interstate race. Liesel was also awarded silver for coming 2nd in Under19 Women’s Single Scull.
