Orienteering
Anna Smart (Year 5) attended the NSW Schools Orienteering Championships over the weekend and walked away with some impressive results.
Day 1 held at Kings School saw Anna take out second fastest time in race 1 in the W9/10A Group. Unfortunately, during race 2 she miss-punched and therefore her time didn’t count but would have come in 1st or 2nd had it have been correct.
Day 2 was held in the Blue Mountains. Anna did extremely well to navigate in the bush for the first time and she came away with 4th place. Congratulations Anna.
She enjoyed the Blue Mountains race so much that after she finished the last race, Anna then did the next level up W11/12A map for fun and showed her family how to Orienteer.
A big thank you to Barbara Hill from Bold Horizons for showing her the ropes and for helping on the weekend. It’s great to see how far Anna has come from not knowing how to read maps or orienteer to being able to confidently go to new schools and navigate the bush on her own.
Orienteering contributes to enhanced fitness and challenges the mind. It offers independent skills in navigating and problem solving. Registrations for Orienteering are termly and offered to students from Years 5 to 12. Term 4 registrations will open at 12.00pm (Midday) on Wednesday 6 September.
