igsa Hockey Competition – Round 2

Pymble 1 played NEGS at Sydney Olympic Park. They had a fantastic match, defeating the opposition 4 to 2. Emilia Bono (Year 10) opened the match up early scoring a beautiful goal on her debut for Pymble.

Pymble 2 were up against a tough Queenwood 1. Unfortunately, the girls came away with a hard fought loss but they played some great hockey and continued to battle until the very end of the match without giving up.

Pymble 3 bought some fantastic energy this week and were up for the challenge. They took advantage of playing wide throughout the match and continued to dominate with their strong press.

Pymble 4 had a very tight match against Wenona. The girls went into half time one all. Late in the second half saw Anabella Legge-Hughes (Year 8) finding some space at the back post to tap in her first ever goal for the Junior Firsts team.

Pymble 5were away this week against MLC. The girls were on fire with their defence keeping it to zero, making it very difficult to the opposition to score. A massive shout out to Matilda Clement (Year 9) who played her first game in goals and saved various shots on the day.

Pymble 6 had an entire team on debut in the igsa Hockey competition and came away with a win against PLC. It was so good to see all our Year 7s take the pitch and see their first two weeks of training in play. Late in the second half we saw Jade George (Year 7) score a beautiful goal on home turf. A massive shoutout goes to Georgia Blue (Year 7) who absolutely dominated the midfield!

igsa Captain’s Report

This week, our Captain Arabella Smithyman (Year 12) shares with us an insight on what the Pymble 1 match was like against NEGS.

On Friday 2 August, we had our second game of the season with an exciting trip to Sydney Olympic Park to face NEGS. During this game, it was evident that the team has really starting to gel, forming smooth passes and becoming more fluid and connected throughout the play.

Despite missing a few of our Year 9s and some older players, we were fortunate to welcome four talented Year 10 exchange students: Delfina De Benedetti, Emilia Bono, Victoria Rotondaro, and Juana Monteros, who proved to be valuable additions to the side.

The game was played at high intensity, with all the girls giving 100%. Our opponents managed to score two goals; the first came from a penalty stroke which our goal keeper Elizabeth Graves (Year 12) bravely faced, and the second during a strong push from NEGS in the second half after we had scored.

Our superstar exchange student Emilia, who was also named Player of the Match, scored two brilliant goals for us. The other two goals came from our leading scorer Bella Croker (Year 11), who sealed our victory with a magnificent tomahawk shot into the top right corner.

We concluded the game with an impressive 4 to 2 win, setting the tone for how we aim to perform for the rest of the season.

We are eager to get back out there on Saturday to face PLC.
