Year 12 Information Night
It was so lovely to see so many of you in person on Thursday night for the Year 12 Information Night. For those who were unable to attend, we have made a recording of the presentations available below. It was also sent out via MyPymble this week.
Please do not hesitate to follow up with any of the presenters should you need further information. If you are not sure who to contact, your daughter’s Head of Year is a great place to start. They will be able to connect you with the right people related to your concerns.
Festival of Speech
Last week, Pymble students competed in the prestigious Festival of Speech across a range of disciplines. Our captain of Language Arts, Catherine, has provided the following report:
Last Friday and Saturday, students from Years 7 to 12 at Pymble Ladies’ College travelled to MLC School for the annual igsa Festival of Speech. This language arts competition brings together nearly 30 schools from Sydney and the ACT to compete in categories such as drama, debating, poetry, prose readings, current affairs and religious and ethical questions.
Over the past few weeks, our students have trained rigorously with their coaches in preparation. A full festival rehearsal last Wednesday helped refine their performances before the official competition kicked off on Friday. The air was filled with excitement and nerves as our representatives proudly competed for Pymble.
Pymble achieved an outstanding result, placing second overall, first in the junior category, and third in the senior category! We are incredibly proud of everyone who participated, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the students, coaches and supporters. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at MLC and are already looking forward to next year’s festival!
Youth Ambassador – Sir David Martin Foundation, Supporting vulnerable young people
Year 12 student Ellie has been selected to sit on the Youth Advisory Group of the Sir David Martin Foundation. Please read below for further information from Ellie.
A year ago, I attended a fundraising event for the Sir David Martin Foundation, an incredible organisation that has been supporting vulnerable young people in crisis for over 33 years. At this event, I learned about the Youth Advisory Group, a diverse and passionate team of young individuals who bring their unique experiences to provide valuable insights and guidance to the Foundation’s executives and board.
Their work focuses on developing initiatives that can better support at-risk youth. Listening to the inspiring stories of resilience and the positive impact of the Foundation’s assistance deeply moved me. Motivated by what I heard, I expressed my interest in joining the Youth Advisory Group, and I feel truly honoured to have been selected as a member during the recent holidays.
Congratulations to Ellie for her advocacy of this vulnerable group of young people.
New Student Leader Workshop
We are excited to share that our recent Student Leaders Workshop was a resounding success. The girls had the incredible opportunity to hear from inspiring alumni about their own leadership journeys, which set the stage for a day of personal growth and exploration. Under the guidance of Dr Hadwen, they built their own understanding of their individual strengths and unique leadership styles.
Working alongside their staff mentors, they planned various initiatives while gaining valuable insights into program management, teamwork and goal setting. A heartfelt thank you goes to our staff mentors, Dr. Hadwen, alumni Samantha Guthrie and Viveca Tang, and especially to Mrs. Hunt, Head of Secondary Wellbeing, for organising and leading this wonderful day.
