Volleyball – Week 1
Round 1 of the 2025 Santa Sabina Invitational Volleyball Competition took place this past Saturday. We had a fantastic first week of training with spirits and energy levels at an all-time high, which flowed into our game play in Round 1. Our Pymble teams came away with six wins, three draws, and two losses from our 11 games.
Our Year 7s (Pymble 7) got off to a flying start for their first competitive game with a 3 to 0 win against Loreto Kirrbilli. It was great to see how advanced our serving and receiving skills were compared to our opposition.
A double header win for Pymble 6 shoots them straight to the top of the table. A huge team collective saw our Year 8 girls take a two-set lead in both games.
Pymble 5, our Year 8 Division 1 team, started the term on fire. Sherise Tam (Year 8) started the game with seven straight aces, which Abbotsleigh were unable to recover from.
Pymble 4, also had a double header, losing a close game one against St. Scholastica. The girls did exceptionally well to identify some weaknesses in game one and address them in game two, where they won 3 to 0.
The same can be said for Pymble 3, our Year 10 team. A tough game one against Rosebank College, was followed by a triumphant win against Brigidine. The girls just kept getting better from set to set.
A huge well done to our Senior Seconds, Pymble 2, who had to compete against Abbotsleigh’s Senior First team, and came away with a draw.
Finally, our Senior First team, Pymble 1, had a double header to open the competition. With only two students returning from last year’s championship winning team, it was always going to be a challenging opening round. Although the results (two draws) weren’t how they envisioned starting the competition, it was amazing to see how they interacted with one another as they got used to working in a completely new team.
