From the Principal

Happy Diwali to our families who celebrate the festival of light, and a big, warm welcome to our new students: three in our Junior School and eight in the Secondary School. It’s not easy to start a new school towards the end of the year, however, I know our students and staff will go out of their way to ensure our new girls and their families feel like they already belong in our big, beautiful, diverse and inclusive community.

Term 4 is our final term in our designated Year of Respect, and our focus for the next six weeks is on respecting our Pymble environment by keeping it rubbish-free. This includes our main campus and Vision Valley – special shout-out here to Year 9 parents whose daughters, along with 55 Churchie boys, are one week into the final Residential Program at the Valley for 2025!

Each day, as I walk my dogs in the early hours of the morning and make my way around campus for meetings and visits, I stop and pick up any rubbish I see. Many others do this, too. In Term 4, we are asking all students to pick up after themselves at recess and lunch and take responsibility for removing other litter they see lying around classrooms, common areas or the school grounds. It’s a little thing, but it will make a big difference.

In Week 1, we were honoured to hear from the CEO of Clean Up Australia, Pip Kiernan (aka Aunty Pip to Neve in Year 8, and Mum to three former Pymble girls) who inspired us to get behind the cause her father started 35 years and 23 million Clean Up Australia volunteers ago.

As Pip told our girls in Years 5 to 10:

“Cleaning up your environment is a very simple act, but it’s a very powerful act, and it reminds us that we can have an impact. You can see the fruits of your labour straight away when you’ve done a clean-up. And often this is the catalyst that then propels people to go on and make other changes to lighten their footprint on the planet…”.

Introducing our Head Prefects for 2025 / 2026

It’s become something of an annual tradition to handover this column to our incoming Head Prefects. Without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Grace Beck and Jenny Xu.

Meet Grace Beck

“My first year at Pymble was in Year 6, where I jumped eagerly into all the opportunities the school had to offer. Since then, I’ve done swimming, athletics, cross country, diving and robotics, just to name a few.

“However, what I love most about Pymble is how, over the years, I have been given the opportunity to meet and connect with so many of my peers, within my year group and across others. Because of the activities I’ve participated in and the number of girls I was supported by, I’ve been able to share my story and listen to the stories of countless others, which is something so special.

“Something that will always stand out to me are the camps and when I’ve had the opportunity to travel with my friends. Sitting around a campfire at Vision Valley, flying over the snow-capped mountains on the way to French Exchange and travelling to Texas to compete in robotics were all made so special because of the peers I was surrounded by and the memories we made together. But sometimes, what I find to be most meaningful at Pymble, is a simple lunchtime, sitting down and laughing with friends, and taking the time to connect with each other, and your Pymble community.

“I applied for leadership in my final year as I have always wanted to represent this community and bring us closer together. To leave a legacy beyond my years here is something so special, and I really hope to achieve this as Head Prefect. I hope that in 2026 (with the theme, which we will reveal soon!), everyone at Pymble can feel inspired to be courageous, step outside their comfort zones, and strive to achieve their goals. Continuing from the 2025 ‘Come Alive’ theme, we hope to embody our College theme of Courage, embrace the Pymble Spirit, and support others, so that together we can all reach our goals.”

Meet Jenny Xu

“My journey at the College has been quite a long, winding road over the past 12 years. From K-6, I tried just about every activity Pymble had to offer – from band to tennis to Taekwondo. I had so much fun meeting friends and making happy memories during this time, and I will forever be grateful for the incredible range of opportunities that were available to us.

“It wasn’t until Year 7, however, that I discovered something I truly loved: the world of Language Arts. I was immediately drawn to the spirited and spontaneous nature of debating, the tight-knit community and the teamwork it required. Over the past five years, I’ve also taken part in debating, public speaking, Mock Trial and Model UN, and have learnt so much from the amazing staff, parents and older students who support us at every competition and training session.

“I am similarly inspired by the camaraderie within my own cohort. Although it’s only been less than two weeks since the beginning of Year 12, I’ve been so moved by the way my year group has come together to celebrate this milestone. Over the next year, I hope that we can foster the same kind of connection and support throughout the College.

“I applied for Head Prefect because I’ve always looked up to the prefects of the past (special mention to Ang-Ya and Emily for being such amazing mentors!). I hope that in 2026, we can inspire Pymble students to have the courage to act on what they believe in, even when it may seem daunting. I hope that we can inspire students to take that courageous ‘first step’, whether that’s trying a new co-curricular, making a new friend or pursuing a personal interest project.”

Farewell to our Class of 2024 / 2025

Thanks Jenny and Grace, we look forward to seeing your leadership evolve over the next four terms.

Signing off for this week with a few beautiful reflections (and tears!) from some of our outgoing leaders, who are now into their second week of HSC exams, believe it or not. We are with them in spirit as they work their way through each paper and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for making our world a better place. ❤️ 💙 🤍

A Message from Mrs Kate Brown, Head of Junior School

Welcome to Term 4, and a warm welcome to our new students and their families joining Junior School this term – Mabel (Year 2) and Primrose (Year 4) Osborne, and Chloe Huang (Year 2). We are so excited that your families have joined our Pymble family and are delighted to see that they are already so settled.

Already this week we’ve had girls exploring magnets, soil erosion, the properties of gravity, learning to swim, working on stroke development, learning gymnastic fundamentals, exploring the properties of poetry, and informative writing. They are also analysing visual literacy, and exploring the themes of environmental protection, connection to Country, and sustainability within imaginative and persuasive texts. The girls are designing jewellery, exploring animation and working on their environmental creature sculptures, made with papier mâche.

Diwali

We wish a happy Diwali to all our families who celebrate this special festival of light. This week, a group of Year 5s who attended the 2025 Be Kinder summit introduced their new initiative of an exploration of different cultures across the term to deepen our knowledge of the many cultures within our community. This week we explored Diwali, its meaning, and the decorations, games and food that help celebrate this important festival, honouring the way good conquers evil. Today, the Junior School had the opportunity to create rangoli and paper diyas as part of our celebration of Diwali.

Respect in the community

This week, a small, courageous, and compassionate group of Year 5s who have been leading their Bead4Love service initiative over the last two terms began visiting some of the elders at Killara Gardens Aged Care Centre. It was special to see how joyful the girls were when they returned from their visit and how they spoke of the new friendships they had formed with the elders.

A recent article by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, in collaboration with Professor Robert Waldinger, reviews the Harvard Study of Adult Development, which began in 1938, and represents the longest investigation into adult life ever conducted. This Harvard report states that ‘the people who were more connected to others stayed healthier and were happier throughout their lives. And it wasn’t simply about seeing more people each week. It was about having warmer, more meaningful connections….by nurturing the development of social and emotional skills…we will be equipping children with the capacity to love and be loved.’

Respecting and supporting one another

It’s that exciting time of year where some of our girls in Years 3-6 showcase their talents as they audition for our annual PJ Factor showcase. Watching these auditions is a reminder of how courageous and multi-talented our girls are, and how kind they are as they turn out to support one another. It’s a very tough job for the judges as each performer deserves to be in the final showcase!

A Message from Mrs Hilary Alo-Emile – Year 1 Co-ordinator

Year 1 went on a Science Incursion called “Get Growing’ learning about the environment around us. First, we went on a nature walk and saw some beautiful plants and flowers. We learnt all about the important parts of plants and how they grow. The second investigation we did was to visit the farm. Farmer Dave showed us all the amazing animals, and we even got to feed the chickens and collect the eggs from the coops. After that, we went on a scavenger hunt to find all the different types of leaves and flowers identified by their shape. We found an oval leaf and spike flower. Finally, we had a nature talk with Sarah. She told us all about how plants grow fruit. We also played a Cassowary game where we learnt about why we shouldn’t cut down trees and hurt the environments where animals live. It was a fantastic day, and we had lots of fun!

A Message from Mrs Kate Giles- Head of Wellbeing K-6

Why teaching social and emotional skills in primary school is essential

Research shows that how children learn to manage their emotions, build friendships, set goals, and make decisions is just as important as academic learning. Further, Durak et al (2018) found that programs targeting social and emotional learning, not only enhance student’s social and emotional skills but also lead to improved academic performance. These skills are explicitly taught through our Compass programs using evidence- based programs, including URSTRONG and Kimochis.

The College is using the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) Framework to underpin this teaching of social and emotional skills. The CASEL Framework identifies five core areas of social and emotional competence that are vital for children to thrive in school and later in life:

  • Self- Awareness– understanding your own feelings, strengths and values and how these impact your actions
  • Self- Management– regulating and managing emotions, thoughts and behaviours in different situations
  • Social Awareness– understanding different perspectives, showing empathy and respecting others
  • Relationship skills– establishing and maintaining healthy and supportive relationships, including communicating, cooperating and resolving conflicts
  • Responsible Decision-making– making kind and ethical choices

The framework also highlights the importance of the partnership between home and school and the importance of community. It really does take a village!

How can you help your daughter at home?

  • Talk about feelings openly and how feelings impact behaviour
  • Model calm problem solving and empathy
  • Praise effort and kindness, not just results
  • Ask your daughter how she solved a problem or helped a friend

To learn more about CASEL and the explicit teaching of social and emotional skills, please come along to the JSPG Term 4 meeting and AGM next week – all are welcome!

Deputy of Head of Junior School – Operations: Mr Stephen Robinson

School and Co-curricular Attendance

A reminder to families that regular full attendance at school is essential for all students. When a child is sick and unable to attend school, they are precluded from attending after school co-curricular activities. Should students have appointments during the school day, please ensure they are at school by 11.45am in order to attend co-curricular activities.

Summer Uniform Matters

Many of our students have grown significantly since they last wore their summer uniform at the beginning of the year. A reminder that the summer uniform must be within 5cm of the knee. Please visit the uniform shop in person or online to order a replacement if your daughter has grown.

Junior School Canteen Helpers

Thank you to the parents who gave up their time to volunteer last term.  Term 4 dates are now available on the Google Form. Please click the link if you can volunteer your time. For the care and safety of your daughters, all volunteers must have a current Working with Children Check (WWC). If we do not already have your WWC on file, please email to juniorschool@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au your WWC number and date of birth so your WWC can be verified.

Birthdays

There is no expectation that you supply treats for your daughter’s class. We will make every girl feel special on their birthday. If you would like to provide treats for the class on your daughter’s birthday, she may come to school with a small cupcake for each student in the class or an ice block, if the weather is warm. Please only supply for your daughter’s class not for her friends she may have in the grade.  Birthday Zooper Dooper buckets are available to order via Flexischools each Wednesday and Friday. Please do not bring in gift bags.

From the Middle School

From the Middle School

From the Head of Middle School Jenny O’Donnell

This week is especially busy in Middle School as we prepare for our incoming Year 7 2026 students who will be visiting on Friday for Links Day. This is always a very special occasion that marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for the youngest members of our community. I would like to acknowledge and thank all the current students – our Middle School Leaders and our Transition Leaders – who will be assisting on the day to ensure everyone feels welcome.

On Monday, we held the inaugural Year 7 House Handball Championships in the gym. Having run preliminary heats within Compass groups last term, we invited House representatives to compete against each other to determine the winner. Congratulations to Lang House and Marlia Uhl who represented the group with skill and enthusiasm. The event concluded with ice blocks for all- a welcome treat on a hot summer’s day.

Aryana Dinesh from Year 7 provides an update below regarding her Kindness Board initiative.

I noticed that we could do more to celebrate kindness, and that small acts of kindness were often going unnoticed. So, I came up with an idea to change that – A board where we can recognise and appreciate the little things people do every day. It reminds us all to ‘stop and smell the roses’! To get started, I made a plan and a short presentation about how to bring the initiative to life and how it would benefit the students. I shared this with our Heads of Middle School and Heads of Year, and I was really excited when it got approved! I want to thank Ms O’Donnell, Ms Budd, Ms Michie, and Mr Stern for encouraging me to dream big and for giving me the opportunity to implement my idea. In Term 3, Week 9, I officially launched The Kindness Board by giving a speech to the Middle School and inviting everyone to join in. Since then, it’s been running every day — and it makes me so happy to see how many kindness notes appear in the box! This term, I hope even more students will get involved. Because every act of kindness, no matter how small, deserves to be noticed.

We have many talented girls to celebrate across Years 7 and 8. Below is just a selection of students who were busy achieving across the break. Well done to each of you.

Congratulations to Alice Jiang and Athena Wu of Year 8 who participated in the Oxford Schools Australia and New Zealand Debating Championship, held at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview. They were thrilled to win the Grand Final, and as the Grand Final Champions, they have been invited to represent Pymble Ladies’ College at the Oxford Schools Global Final Debate Competition, on March 14, 2026, at Oxford University.

Additionally, the girls competed in the World Scholar’s Cup Christchurch Global Round and have now been invited to the final Tournament of Championship at Yale University. The impressive list of awards received are outlined below:

• Trophy as the Champion Debate Team

• Trophy for 3rd place in Team Challenge

• Trophy for 4th place Junior Team

• Gold Medal as 9th Best Overall School

• Gold Medal as 5th Debater

• Gold Medal as the 9th Collabo Writer

• Silver Medal in Team Writing

• Silver Medal for 8th place Challenge – Social Studies

Congratulations to Yenyu Chen of Year 8, on being selected as a finalist in the My Awesome Australian Art Competition.  In recognition of her skills her painting will be on display in The National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. I invite you to enjoy her reflection below.

I have a deep passion for art and so over the holidays, I decided to enter the ‘My Awesome Australian’ art competition to try something new and experiment with using acrylic paint for the first time. To my surprise, I received an email today letting me know that my artwork has been selected as a finalist and will be displayed in the National Portrait Gallery. It’s such an honour to be part of this exhibition, especially as it marks the 50th anniversary of the gallery. It’s truly been a pleasure to share my work and represent Pymble in this milestone year, and thus i have shared this achievement with you. I’m also really glad that I chose to experiment with acrylics. I’ve learned so much through the process and although this may not be my best work ever compared to other mediums, i’m really glad i tried something new and and this has motivated me a lot to continue developing my new painting skills so I can continue improving as an artist.

Congratulations to Peaches Zhang of Year 7 who achieved amazing results in the prestigious Asian Grand Prix ballet competition. She placed 2nd in her category and was the youngest in her age division. As a result she was invited to participate in the finals in Manila, The Philippines where she performed her variation and contemporary solo with style.

Congratulations to Chloe Morrison of Year 7 who competed across the school holidays and won a total of 6 trophies (mixture of winner and runner up) across 3 elite Tennis tournaments. She has now qualified for the U12 Nationals with Tennis Australia. Chloe has worked with commitment and determination to achieve this goal.

Congratulations to Anna Yu Ling Wang of Year 7 for her achievements in the Level 8 Division B Floor Gymnastics. She has now been named Champion GOLD at the 2025 National Gymnastics Clubs carnival on Gold Coast where she also placed an impressive 5th in the All-Around!

Congratulations to Isabel Fan of Year 8 who over the holidays took part in the Sydney Organ Competition, which is held every two years. She had a wonderful experience meeting and performing alongside students from other schools and regions, and was thrilled to receive the Organ Music Society of Sydney Encouragement Award.

A message from Victoria Harrison, Head of Upper School

A very warm welcome to Term 4! We are delighted to welcome Cordelia, Sophie, Aurelia, Lulu, and Emmeline to the Upper School this term. We look forward to getting to know them and ensuring they feel at home at Pymble.

We hope your daughters enjoyed some downtime during the holidays and have returned feeling rested and rejuvenated. There is much to accomplish between now and the end of term! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support should you need it during this busy period.

Our students have an exciting term ahead, filled with fun and challenging learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The final Year 9 Residential Program for the year commenced this week with a visit to Vision Valley and students were joined by boys from Churchie. We have consistent data showing that girls who complete this program report improved wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging; we hope this will be the case for these students as well. The Upper School team is looking forward to their upcoming visits to Vision Valley, and I am excited to join the girls on their Blue Mountains abseiling and canyoning day next week.

For our Year 10 students, this term marks significant academic milestones. The girls have been diligently preparing for their Yearly Examinations in Week 3 and the upcoming transition into Senior School. Our role is to support them in developing vital study skills, resilience, and time management. Please reach out to your daughter’s Compass teacher or Head of Year if you have any concerns.

Year 10 Examination Information

The Year 10 examination block will be held from Monday 27 October to Thursday 30 October (Week 3). Students have two exams daily on Monday and Tuesday and will remain at school in quiet study rooms between their morning and afternoon exams.

On Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October, some students may have one or more examinations based on their elective choices. If students have only an afternoon examination, they are permitted to sign in late. Students should arrive just before their examination.

Once students have completed their final examination of the day on Wednesday and/or Thursday, they have permission to return home. Students are expected to return directly home.

On Friday 31 October, students will be taking part in ALLWELL exams from Periods 1- 4. This is compulsory for all students and will require catch-up for any student who is absent on the day.

An exciting afternoon has been organised during lunch, MBS and Period 5 on Friday. Lunch will be provided, and students will have the opportunity to select from a range of afternoon activities. If students would like to be involved in a swimming activity, they are encouraged to bring their Pymble swimming costume. Students will need to change into their PE uniform for lunch and Period 5.

All students are expected to attend the full day on Friday.

Please note that the Upper School Common Room will be open to Year 10 students on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon this week from 3:30 to 5:00pm for private study in the lead up to exams. Students must sign in if they are attending and will be supervised by a member of staff.

Year 10 started the term off with the Annual Pymble and Shore Dance at Miramare Gardens. It was a fun way to start the term and for the girls to have an opportunity to connect with their peers at Shore.  Thank you to Stella Sharp for sharing her reflection of the event.

Pymble Shore Dance aka ‘Shormal’ student reflection

“After weeks of excited planning- which hairstyle matches the dress? Do we risk a night-before tan? Trust the catering, or fry up my grandma’s legendary spring rolls as insurance? Out of nowhere, the Shormal countdown hit zero.

My friends and I got ready at my house, terrified we’d set the fun standard too high, and that the icebreakers with Shore would be painfully awkward. Never mind! Devouring spring rolls, we grew the guts needed to face the night ahead.

The event began with a traffic jam as over 400 students filed into the venue. That’s when I spotted a group of Shore boys. No, sorry, a group of Adam Sandlers. Pyjamas, sweatpants, Nike Tech, Birkies. Okay. Thank you, at least, for wearing shoes.

Inside, I quickly sniffed out the catering (a solid four out of five). Then came the icebreakers: same colour wristband? Easy. Same electives? Tougher. Same height? Funny. I strolled right back to the sandwiches.

Once the music was pumped up, the dance floor came alive. Shout out to Erin and Mia for destroying the “White Chicks reminiscent dance battle!

Socialising was a mix of shouting over the music and awkward but endearing interactions. Special mention to the boy who offered me a handshake, then immediately wiped his hand on his shirt. No, I don’t have cooties.

By the time ‘Dancing Queen’ hit, I had maxed out the photo booth, ripped out some killer dance moves, and made plenty of lasting memories.

While my grandma was disappointed that I returned without a husband, I think coming home with good friends, sore feet, and to a sneaky leftover spring roll was a far greater success. What a night!”

Service in Action – St Edmunds Swimming Carnival and Vision Valley Day

We deeply appreciate our students’ commitment to supporting peers with additional needs. We are proud to have expanded our partnership with St Edmund’s School and the ways in which we contribute to their community. This week, our Year 10 students assisted at St Edmund’s annual swimming carnival with remarkable compassion and enthusiasm. On Friday, our Vision Valley girls will continue this partnership by facilitating a range of outdoor education activities for St Edmund’s students. The girls have thoughtfully prepared for these sessions, and we are grateful for the meaningful opportunities this experience offers all involved.

On Monday, 21st October, I had the privilege of volunteering at the St Edmund’s Swimming Carnival, held at Pymble, as a continuation of the AIM initiative. The event was an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the school’s vibrant community and contribute to such a joyful occasion.

Throughout the day, I took part in dressing up in House colours, leading cheers, and encouraging students to show their team spirit. It was inspiring to see the students’ enthusiasm as they cheered one another on, celebrating every effort and achievement with genuine excitement. I especially enjoyed reconnecting with students I had met last term and motivating others to participate in their races with confidence and positivity.

What stood out most was the strong sense of unity among the students and was heart-warming to see friendships and encouragement shared across different year groups.  We also assisted staff by serving complimentary coffee and morning tea, which was a great way to support the smooth running of the event.

Overall, the day was a rewarding and uplifting experience that highlighted the inclusivity, spirit, and sense of community of St Edmund’s College. – Saskia Nicholson

The St Edmund’s Swimming Carnival was an incredible and meaningful experience. Everybody was in their house colours, filling the pool area with excitement and energy as we cheered along the swimmers. It was amazing to see how involved and proud the students were to participate in the carnival and the genuine joy and support from everybody made the day feel extremely special. I feel so deeply grateful and honoured to take part such a joyous and heartwarming event.  – Cindy Jin

Celebrating Student Achievements

Each term and over the break, we receive updates on the remarkable accomplishments of our students, and we encourage you to share these moments with us.

Congarulations Willa!

“Last week in Singapore, the Junior Matildas competed in the Asian Cup Qualification tournament. In our pool was Northern Mariana Islands in conjunction with Singapore. We came away with two wins and secured the team’s spot in the Asian Cup in China next year. It was an amazing experience to be able to compete and even score for my country… but nothing compares to Monday morning Chinese lessons with Xie Lao Shi! “ By Willa Pearson

Congratulations Poppy!

“Over the weekend, I competed on my horse Mickey at ISHE in Tamworth, riding in two different show jumping rounds and winning the 1.15m class. I was pleased to be named Overall Senior Champion. It was a great weekend, especially as it was my first time jumping this height on Mickey, and I really enjoyed riding at AELEC. I’m already looking forward to competing there again next year.” By Poppy Barwick

Shout out to:

Ariana Azizmohommad and Tala Gubara on winning the Pymble Sokratis program this year for their project on Women’s health and fertility.

Congratulations to Sarah Quan (Year 9) for her outstanding performance at the Jack Newton International Sub Junior Golf Classic, placing 6th overall.

Well done to all the students who presented at the Year 10 Talent Development Program Showcase evening. The presentations were outstanding and demonstrated the depth of intellect and passion amongst our students.

Well done to Mali Bond, Naomi Kranjanic, Eliza Lawton, Beth Carruthers, Belle Legge-Hughes, Isabelle Shorter, and Anelia Night for their efforts and successes at the recent NSW All Schools Athletics.

Congratulations to Alice Zhang Kim and Isis Li on their achievements in the National History Challenge. Both Alice and Isis are State Winners in the Asia and Australia and Democracy categories, respectively.

Well done to Madeline Gaden, who placed 3rd at the Bare Equestrian NSW Horse of the Year and has now qualified for the Nationals in December.

Congratulations to Alexa Wu, who will be attending the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science Dinner in recognition of her outstanding achievements in Computer Science competitions this year.

Kudos to Rianne Leung, who proudly represented Australia at the European Cadet Circuit in Slovakia.

A big congratulations to our Year 9 and 10 Dance students in Jazz White and Hip Hop Crew, who were crowned National Champions at the Dance Elite Nationals Competition over the break.

Well done to Poppy Barwick, Alexa Kong, and Jessie Gui for their participation in the Horse Championships and Equestrian Nationals.

From the Senior School

From the Senior School

From the Head of Senior School Mrs Nikki Wyse

It is wonderful to welcome our Senior School families back for Term 4. I hope everyone enjoyed the chance to recharge and create special memories together over the break. I have included some photographs of the joyful final celebrations for our Year 12 students at the end of last term. I was immensely proud of the way these girls graduated from the College, displaying deep pride in their achievements and heartfelt gratitude for their experiences and contributions over the years.

HSC begins

A special welcome back to our Year 12 students who began their HSC examinations last Thursday, starting with English Paper 1. I am confident that the girls are well prepared and will approach the coming weeks with the strength of character and calm assurance they have always displayed. The staff are available to offer support should students or families have any questions or concerns during the examination period. It is important that your daughter maintains balance at this time by keeping a positive mindset, ensuring good sleep, regular exercise, healthy eating and continuing to allocate time to spend time with friends and family.

Year 12 2026

We also extend a warm welcome to our new Year 12 cohort as they commence their final year of academic courses this term. Having chosen their program of study, it is wise to begin with strong routines and steady habits that will sustain a healthy mindset throughout the year. The challenge of Year 12 becomes far more manageable when approached with organisation and balance.

I encourage all girls to continue engaging with their co-curricular passions, as these activities enrich their school experience and bring a sense of joy and fulfilment alongside academic effort. Working collaboratively with each other and building connections and friendships across the year group continues to be a key focus; as I mentioned to the girls in assembly this week, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone…if you want to go far, go together.’

There was much excitement and anticipation last week as the girls celebrated with their parents at the Induction Ceremony for Year 12s, as our new student leaders. Later that day, they received their jerseys and have been wearing them with pride this last week.

Year 12 Information Night

Many thanks to the parents who attended the Information Night this week. We hope that you found the presentation engaging and informative; it is always wonderful to strengthen connections with you, and we truly value the partnership, especially throughout your daughter’s final year of schooling. For those who were unable to attend, the recording of the presentation will be made available on the portal later this week.

Pymble – Knox Social Connections

Our term began on a wonderful note last week with our Social Connections event alongside Knox Grammar students. The afternoon included a presentation from alumni of both schools who offered valuable insights into navigating Year 12 and establishing sound study foundations. This was followed by friendly competition at Hijinx Hotel, where students enjoyed laser tag, bowling, arcade games and challenge rooms. The girls represented the College with warmth and enthusiasm, and I was proud of the way they conducted themselves. Sincere thanks to our alumni Claire and Maddy (ESU 2024) for sharing their advice and to the team of dedicated staff who accompanied the girls.

From the Boarding School

From the Boarding School

This is my first chance to welcome you back to Pymble this term and I trust you are still feeling the joy of the term break. It has been lovely to return to sunshine and the happy faces of your beautiful girls. I have loved hearing stories of holiday adventures and it was especially heart-warming to hear tales of our Boarders who not only love being together throughout the term but also can’t resist the chance to catch up in the holidays as well. It truly is a wonderful extended family.

The start to the term has been smooth with our Boarders busy with their studies and co-curricular program. Foremost in our minds are our 2025 Year 12s who are applying their usual steadfast determination and resilience to their HSC examinations. They were certainly well prepared for Week 1 and continue to use their time in house effectively. As is tradition, we enjoyed an HSC examination eve celebration in Lang House, sending our Boarders off with good wishes for the weeks to come.

Our new Year 12 leaders

The baton has well and truly been passed to our 2026 Year 12s and it was wonderful to celebrate them at the New Student Leader Induction Assembly. Their experience as members of a residential community has ensured our Boarders are well equipped to meet the challenges of leadership with compassion and poise. It was especially nice to have so many of our Boarder family join us on this special occasion.

Keeping Up With Our Boarders.

As always, I am proud to share with you our latest edition of Keeping Up With Our Boarders. In this edition, you get to meet our new Boarder leaders and take a glimpse into just some of the magic of our lives here on campus. Please click the link and enjoy a lovely read.

Love It Mrs Theresa Mimmo, Deputy Director of Boarding

A very busy weekend was had by our Boarders in their first week back for Term 4. Boarders from Years 7-9 headed to Ascham on Friday night for a NEON social. They had an amazing time and it was lovely seeing lots of photos with their friends from other schools. Year 10 dressed up and celebrated the start of term with Shore at Miramare Gardens for Shoremal. Wahroonga Park was alive with music on Saturday evening for the Twilight Concert where several of our Year 7 Boarders enjoyed a picnic dinner. We still haven’t managed to convince any Boarders to head east and participate in a coastal walk to view Sculptures by the Sea – a challenge for next time. Our Big Sister/Little Sister Sunday afternoon of bowling and YoChi outing was a big success. The girls loved spending time together outside of the College and reconnecting after the holidays.

To see all the exciting activities we have planned for Term 4 please refer to our Love It Program below.

View From My Window

Hi, my name is Millie. I live in Dubbo with my mum, dad, and my sister. I’m actually the youngest of five siblings, which definitely keeps life interesting! Even though only my sister and I are still at home, having older siblings means there’s always someone to talk to or get advice from.

Dubbo is a great place to live – it’s a regional town with a lot of character. Some people call it “Dubvegas” as a bit of a joke, but honestly, there’s always something happening here. We’ve got the famous Taronga Western Plains Zoo and a strong sense of community. I love that it still feels like a country town, but there’s enough going on that you’re never really bored.

One of the things I love most about being at home is the comfort and familiarity. I get to be around my family, sleep in my own bed, eat home-cooked meals, and just relax. It’s a place where I can be completely myself and recharge. I also really enjoy the little things – like catching up with my sister after a long term at school or just spending time with my family and friends.

When I look out my window I see a wide open paddock, gum tree and the warm glow of a fire crackling in the distance which brings the warmth of the country. Dad has surrounded the fire with the excavator which makes afternoons at home peaceful. From my window I see a broad expanse of vivid green lawn stretched out under the blue sky. Beyond the open grass I see a glint of water marking the pool where I spend most of my time when I’m at home swimming on hot summer days. Lastly, I see the sky glowing with shades of orange, yellow and a soft hint of pink as the sun begins to set. The colours stretch across the clouds painting with warmth. It’s quite calm and one of those moments that makes you stop and just enjoy the view when home being.

Returning to Boarding can feel like a mix of emotions. There’s always that bit of sadness when it’s time to say goodbye to home again, but at the same time, it’s exciting to return to Boarding life. I get to see all my friends again, and there’s something nice about being back in a structured routine. Boarding also gives me independence and helps me learn to manage things on my own, which I know will be really helpful later in life. Sometimes it’s hard, but I’ve learned that the more I throw myself into it, the better it gets.

One thing I’ve realised is that being away from home actually makes me appreciate it even more. I’ve come to value my family, my hometown, and even the quiet moments that I used to take for granted. Boarding has its ups and downs, but it’s taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of strong friendships.

Boarder of the Week

Congratulations to Alexis (Lexie) Kostalas, who received resounding support for her nomination as Boarder of the Week! Since joining us in Year 7 from Port Macquarie at the beginning of the year, Lexie has brought boundless energy, positivity, and goodwill to our community. She is always ready with a smile and quick to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

Lexie stands out as an excellent spokesperson for her peers and is an active, effective member of the Boarders’ Representative Council. Her kindness, consideration, and fun-loving spirit are truly appreciated by everyone around her. Lexie’s cheerful presence never fails to brighten our boarding community. Well done, Lexie!

Sport Awards Dinner 2025

On Friday 7 November, the College will honour the achievements of our talented and dedicated sportswomen in Years 7 to 12 who have achieved great success and demonstrated outstanding commitment to their sports throughout 2025.

On the night, students who participate in competitive sports will be recognised through several awards which include Athlete of the Year, All Rounder of the Year, igsa Team of the Year, Representative Team of the Year, Strive for the Highest Awards, Sports Officials of the Year, Australian Representatives, Para Athlete of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year.

Students and teams are nominated for these awards by the Sports Co-ordinators and Head Coaches and are then finalised by a committee. The dinner will celebrate the achievements of our students and teams and give due regard to the College values which these awardees exemplify. Awards are a way to encourage good performance and instil competitive spirit. Sport at Pymble provides a platform for girls to be challenged, achieve and grow, and this awards dinner is designed to recognise those who compete at the highest level in their chosen disciplines.

Also, we acknowledge that not all girls who show excellence and commitment to their sport can be recognised at the awards evening – there are simply too many students who represent the College in sport. For those girls who are not receiving an award at the dinner, we recognise and acknowledge your contribution to Pymble and encourage you to continue to strive for your highest in your chosen sport.

I would also like to extend special thanks to our College Principal, Dr Hadwen, and the College Council for supporting our exceptional Sport program, and to all the parents/carers who support their daughters in their varied sporting pursuits.

Mrs Katie Edwards, Head of Sport (7-12)

Blessing of the Animals

One of the many things that I loved about the holidays was spending time with the smallest member of my family, McGonagall. McGonagall is a tiny tabby cat who spends her days lying curled up in the sun or watching the birds outside our windows.

She is an essential member of our family. We care for her and she cares, just as much, for us. She wakes us up in the morning when we have slept too long. She encourages us to play silly games. She invites us to lie in the sun with her and watch the world outside. She somehow knows when we are upset and cuddles up on our lap, despite not usually being a lap-cat. She is a wonderful presence in our lives, and we are blessed to have her.

Over the holiday’s many people acknowledged the blessings that pets give to their lives by taking their animals and pets to a ‘Blessing of the Animals’ worship service. These special days are held annually on, or close to, St Francis of Assisi Day which is celebrated on 4th October. There was even a Blessing of the Animals at Taronga Zoo, hosted by Uniting Church Minister, Rev. Bill Crews. You might like to have a look at a brief clip about by clicking on the image below.

St Francis of Assisi was the Italian son of a wealthy merchant who was born in 1181. As a young person he left behind his comfortable life to serve the poor. He taught that all of creation, including the animals, the oceans, the sky and the land was important and connected. His life and the movement that arose because of his service encourages us to consider how we are cared for, and can care for all things, including people, animals and the earth.

He has several prayers and poems attributed to him including the two below.

St Francis of Assisi, and the annual Blessing of the Animals remind me to recognise, appreciate and return the care that I receive from nature. This includes my four-legged family member of course, but also the ants that travel along the path in front of me that inspire me to be persistent and to work with other people to achieve tasks that seem impossible. It includes the birds that I see around the school, in particular the brush turkeys that make enormous piles of leaves into nests, and the magpies caring for their young. It includes all things that fly and dance and swim across the earth.

My prayer today is simply that you also notice and appreciate this care, and care in turn for all things.

Rev. Danielle Hemsworth-Smith
College Chaplain

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Canticle of Brother Sun and Sister Moon

Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord, All praise is Yours, all glory, all honour and all blessings.

To you alone, Most High, do they belong, and no mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.

Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour,
Of You Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
In the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,
And fair and stormy, all weather’s moods,
by which You cherish all that You have made.

Praised be You my Lord through Sister Water,
So useful, humble, precious and pure.

Praised be You my Lord through Brother Fire,
through whom You light the night and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You my Lord through our Sister,
Mother Earth
who sustains and governs us,
producing varied fruits with colored flowers and herbs.
Praise be You my Lord through those who grant pardon for love of You and bear sickness and trial.

Blessed are those who endure in peace, By You Most High, they will be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord through Sister Death,
from whom no-one living can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Blessed are they She finds doing Your Will.

No second death can do them harm. Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks,
And serve Him with great humility.

World Athletics Championships

We are thrilled to welcome back our Athletics Co-ordinator, Samantha Dale, who recently represented Australia in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships held in Tokyo. Samantha’s dedication and achievements on the world stage make her an outstanding role model for our girls and an inspiration within our program.

We are also excited to congratulate our Head of Sport, Katie Edwards, who was part of the Australian Para Athletics team as a team coach. Katie also coached her athlete, Mali Lovell, to an incredible two silver medals in the 100m and 200m at the World Para Athletics Championships in Delhi – an outstanding achievement that reflects her commitment and expertise at the elite level.

In addition, we celebrate one of our junior coaches and 2017 Pymble alumna, Kristie Edwards, who also competed at the World Athletics Championships in both the 200m and 4x100m relay. Our Kindergarten to Year 6 girls are so fortunate to have an alumna and international athlete inspiring them.

Another remarkable achievement came from Pymble alumna, Mackenzie Little, who secured a bronze medal in the javelin at the World Athletics Championships.

Both Kristie and Mackenzie were part of the Pymble Athletics program during their school years, and their success is a wonderful reflection of the foundation and support from our program in the early stages of their athletics career. Their achievements show our girls what’s possible when passion, hard work, and belief come together – a true reflection of the Pymble spirit.

Dance of Champions

On Saturday 27 September, our Hip Hop Crew proudly represented Pymble Ladies’ College at the Sydney Eisteddfod Dance of Champions held in the Concert Hall at The Concourse. Having won first place at Sydney Eisteddfod, the girls were invited to perform at this prestigious event, which celebrates the artistry and dedication of Australia’s next generation of dancers across a wide range of styles.

The girls delivered a dynamic performance with professionalism and creativity, showcasing their hard work and talent on one of Sydney’s biggest stages. It was an incredible opportunity to perform alongside some of the best groups in the country, and we are extremely proud of their achievement.

Pymble Dance Company – Guest Teacher Workshop

On Monday 22 September, our Company dance members had the privilege of working with guest choreographer Joel Murfey. Joel’s piece, which he created for the Australian Dance Festival, won the award for Most Entertaining on Sunday 21 September. It was truly inspiring to have him share his knowledge and creativity with our students.

Over six hours, Joel worked with the girls to create a dynamic routine that they will perform at our Performance Stream Showcase on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 November. I was extremely impressed with how focused and engaged our dancers were, taking every opportunity to learn and grow from this experience.

2026 Performance Dance Auditions

The College was buzzing with energy as students auditioned for the 2026 Performance Dance team. Our selective performance group for dancers who want to be challenged, grow their skills, and be part of a dedicated group.

On Friday 10 October, Junior dancers lit up the main hall, with 290 students stepping forward to showcase their talent, technique, and commitment. The atmosphere was full of excitement and courage as students performed combinations learned via video tutorials and demonstrated their technique for the audition panel.

The following Monday 13 October, it was the Secondary dancers’ turn, with 402 auditions completed. The panel, made up of permanent Dance Staff and Eisteddfod coaches, was impressed by the precision, focus, and passion displayed by the students.

Auditions gave students a chance to shine, learn, and challenge themselves in a positive and supportive environment, from performing set combinations to demonstrating technical skills.

Congratulations to all students who auditioned! Your courage and love for dance have set the stage for an exciting 2026 Performance Stream.

Camp Thredbo 2025 – A Week in the Life of an Elite Swimmer

Our competitive swimmers recently returned from an inspiring week at Camp Thredbo. With 16 Pymble girls attending, the week was filled with learning, laughter, and growth as athletes explored topics such as periodisation, energy systems, mindset, recovery, and the effects of altitude on performance. Training at 1,370m above sea level provided a unique challenge, building both physical resilience and mental toughness. Daily swim sessions, mindfulness practices, and mobility work ensured swimmers not only developed as athletes but also as mindful, grounded individuals.

Beyond the pool, team-building activities brought plenty of fun and connection, from trivia and skit nights to The Amazing Race: Thredbo Edition. Swimmers reflected deeply on their journeys, celebrating personal growth and gratitude. Huge thanks to Boali Lodge for their hospitality, and to coaches Jarrod, Raf and Leanne, and Jaimi, our Aquatics Co-ordinator, for their leadership and organisation. Camp Thredbo truly embodied “a week in the life of a performance swimmer” setting the stage for exciting racing and continued success back at sea level.

Queensland All Schools Touch Football

We are excited to share the fantastic achievements of our Pymble Ladies’ College Under 15s Touch Football team, who have just returned from their very first appearance at the largest schools Touch Football competition in the country!

For many of our players, this was not just their first major competition, but also their first trip away as a team. The excitement was electric as our U15s boarded the plane, brimming with anticipation and a few nervous smiles. Despite being newcomers to such a large-scale event, our team approached every challenge with determination and fantastic team spirit.

Placed in a highly competitive pool, our U15s quickly found their rhythm. With each game, they grew in confidence and skill. The team finished up fifth in their pool, a remarkable achievement for such a highly skilled tournament.

What stood out even more than the scoreline was the way the team conducted themselves supporting each other, displaying outstanding sportsmanship, and representing our school with pride. Off the field, the team formed new friendships and made memories that will last a lifetime.

With their first major tournament now behind them, our U15s have set the bar high for themselves. We can’t wait to see how they build on this experience in training and future competitions. The future of Touch Football at our school is looking very bright indeed!

Well done to our U15s Pymble Ladies’ College team. You’ve made us all very proud!

The team consisted of: Grace Akers (Year 8), Ruby Azar (Year 8), Sanduli Bandara (Year 9), Georgia Blue (Year 8), Francesca Chan (Year 9), Helena Fitzsimmons (Year 9), Elsie Hindmarsh (Year 8), Zahra Hindmarsh (Year 8), Dimity Loeve (Year 8), Holly Watson (Year 9), Skye Mitchell (Year 8), Camilla Metcalfe (Year 8), Marley Titley (Year 8).

Volleyball – Week 1

Round 1 of the 2025 Santa Sabina Invitational Volleyball Competition took place this past Saturday. We had a fantastic first week of training with spirits and energy levels at an all-time high, which flowed into our game play in Round 1. Our Pymble teams came away with six wins, three draws, and two losses from our 11 games.

Our Year 7s (Pymble 7) got off to a flying start for their first competitive game with a 3 to 0 win against Loreto Kirrbilli. It was great to see how advanced our serving and receiving skills were compared to our opposition.

A double header win for Pymble 6 shoots them straight to the top of the table. A huge team collective saw our Year 8 girls take a two-set lead in both games.

Pymble 5, our Year 8 Division 1 team, started the term on fire. Sherise Tam (Year 8) started the game with seven straight aces, which Abbotsleigh were unable to recover from.

Pymble 4, also had a double header, losing a close game one against St. Scholastica. The girls did exceptionally well to identify some weaknesses in game one and address them in game two, where they won 3 to 0.

The same can be said for Pymble 3, our Year 10 team. A tough game one against Rosebank College, was followed by a triumphant win against Brigidine. The girls just kept getting better from set to set.

A huge well done to our Senior Seconds, Pymble 2, who had to compete against Abbotsleigh’s Senior First team, and came away with a draw.

Finally, our Senior First team, Pymble 1, had a double header to open the competition. With only two students returning from last year’s championship winning team, it was always going to be a challenging opening round. Although the results (two draws) weren’t how they envisioned starting the competition, it was amazing to see how they interacted with one another as they got used to working in a completely new team.

The competition was very well organised, and the energy throughout the day was fantastic. Pymble students were cheering for each other, showing great teamwork, and making new friends from other schools.

A special congratulations to Team 6510E (AVAE), who received the Innovate Award for their creativity and design approach.

It was a wonderful start to the season, giving students the chance to test their robots in a real match setting and develop valuable collaboration and problem-solving skills.

A big thank you to the event organisers and volunteers who made the day possible.

VEX Robotics Competitions at Pymble

Pymble Ladies’ College proudly hosted two VEX Robotics tournaments this term, welcoming schools from across Sydney to compete and collaborate in an exciting weekend of STEM challenges.

On Friday 27 September, the VEX V5 competition brought together 16 teams from Sydney middle schools. The following day, Sunday 28 September, the College hosted the VEX IQ competition, featuring 13 elementary school teams.

The two competitions cater to different age groups but share the same goal of encouraging students to apply their creativity, engineering and programming skills in a real-world setting. VEX IQ challenges primary students to design, build and code smaller robots, while VEX V5 offers a more advanced platform for secondary students to refine their mechanical design and coding abilities.

Hosting these events gave students the opportunity to gain valuable experience under competition conditions. They tested their robots on the field, learned to troubleshoot under pressure and strengthened their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

Pymble’s own teams were excited to compete on home ground and celebrated strong performances across both events. Team 65100N (Niminiminions) shared the VEX V5 Tournament Championship with Team 1831C from The King’s School, while Team 4613B from Barker College won the Excellence Award.

In the VEX IQ Competition, Teams 21350H and 21350F from Trinity Grammar Preparatory School were the Tournament Champions, with Team 21350F also receiving the Excellence Award.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who made both events possible. It was a wonderful weekend celebrating innovation, collaboration and resilience.
