Study Skills Continuum

Pymble is excited to be partnering with Dr Prue Salter to provide a Study Skills Continuum from Year 7 to Year 12 using the evidence based resources on the Study Skills Website. Research shows that students who are taught study skills and effectively use study periods during secondary school experience improved academic outcomes. Moreover, the positive impact is seen in post- secondary/university achievement.

All students have a timetabled study lesson within the Mind Body Spirit program that is supervised by their compass teacher. Once per term, students will be explicitly taught a study skill relevant to their stage of learning. These intentional focus areas will be reinforced in student’s academic subjects.

Self-directed study opportunities are proven to reduce a student’s cognitive load and reinforce self-regulation. Therefore, students are able to use the remaining study lessons to complete homework tasks, work on assessments or group tasks, attend special meetings or programs, etc. under the supervision of their compass teacher.

The study skills website and VC page are also available online asynchronously. Together, students and parents/carers can use the website to address a unique study skills issue or concern to complement the study continuum we deliver in MBS.
