Debating

Archdale – Shield and Invitational

Archdale Shield Round 4 makeup, will now be held on the FIRST day of Term 3, Tuesday 23 July. All debates against Meriden will be held online from Pymble. Venues to be sent to coaches who will communicate with their teams.

There will be no Archdale Invitational debates on Tuesday 23 July.

Social Debating SSD – Sydney Social Debating

Bravo to our six teams of SSD debaters who debated online in the SSD competition last Friday 21 June.

This Friday 28 June, there will again be Training, Preparation and Online Debates from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

All debates will be held in the Kate Mason (KM) building at Pymble.

We are pleased these new debaters are honing their critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills as well as developing Public Speaking skills and keeping up to date with current affairs issues. Thanks to all debaters and coaches.

Absences

Debaters must inform Mrs Hubbard, their coach and team, in advance, if they will be absent for a Debating round. We do not forfeit, and subs can be arranged.

Public Speaking 

PESA – Congratulations!  State Finals!

Jenny Xu (Year 10) has progressed to the State Finals of the Plain English Speaking Awards. Congratulations Jenny! The state final will be held this Friday 28 June. Best wishes Jenny!

MUN – Model United Nations 

Evatt

Maya Garg (Year 11) and Catherine Shi (Year 11) have now progressed to the Evatt  National final. Congratulations. Please see Catherine’s full report in the Senior School section of this newsletter. She concluded, “All the hard work and hours of preparation definitely paid off – we were delighted to come out of the competition as state champions! We are eagerly looking forward to representing NSW at the National Finals during the upcoming summer holidays.”.

57th Session of THIMUN – The Hague, January 2025 

The Pymble Language Arts International Tour group have been accepted as the first Australian school to attend THIMUN at The Hague. Three teachers and 16 Pymble students will depart Sydney on Friday 17 January 2025 and travellers will commence Term 1 2025 on Monday 3 February 2025. We are excited for this wonderful travel experience!  

Mock Law 

Mediation

Mediation Round Three was held on Friday 21 June. Our score was 88/100. Bravo team and coaches.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial Round Three was held at Pacific Hills School, Dural, on Monday 24 June.  Pymble won the trial. Well done to our team.

 Upcoming Programs and Events 

  • Farewell to Year 12 High Tea

A farewell to Year 12 High Tea was held today, Thursday 27 June, in the Gillian Moore Centre for Performing Arts. It was lovely to honour every student debater in Year 12 this year! Parents worked hard to make this a lovely event. Thank you to all.

  • IDC Debating Term 4. Expressions of interest have been sent for the IDC season. Dates have been released and students in ISDA, Archdale or FED (finalists only) can participate and make their own team of four.
  • Staff v Student debate – stay tuned for this forthcoming highlight. The date will now be at the start of Term 3.
  • PMUN Winter Conference – Saturday 27 July. This is the first Saturday of Term 3. Please complete your expression of interest by clicking here.
