WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability is the practice of meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations (including our children’s generation) to meet their own.

START SMALL, MAKE A BIG IMPACT

Sustainability can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are five easy ways to begin:

• Refuse: Say no to unnecessary products – like single-use plastics or freebies you don’t need.
• Reduce: Buy only what you need, choose items with less packaging, and opt for quality over quantity.
• Reuse: Repair, repurpose, borrow, donate, or buy second-hand. Giving things a second life keeps them out of landfill and saves resources.
• Recycle: Sort your waste so materials like paper, glass, and certain plastics can be turned into something new.
• Recover: Compost food scraps.

FOOD WASTE: Why It Matters

Every day, Australia sends 19,000 tonnes of food waste to landfill. When food rots, it produces methane – a greenhouse gas 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, accelerating climate change. Meanwhile, Sydney’s landfills are almost at capacity, so something must change.
