Principal’s Report

Already our second last newsletter for 2025!

The hot topic is once again the social media ban for under 16’s. Below is a link with some updated resources for parents and students from esafety.gov. that is really worth a look.

This week is filled with celebration. Both our K-2 and Stage 2 Celebration Concerts will be happening, along with our end of year Presentation Day on Friday. These events are truly the culmination of a wonderful year of learning and we look forward to welcoming our community once again into our school. There was a cool change blowing through our Performance Assembly last week due to our air-conditioning in the hall! Thank you again to the whole community for funding this very welcome addition to our school.

As we begin to wrap up the year there are more changes afoot in our school. The sickbay and staff toilet ammenities in the main building will be upgraded during the holidays and the main building will have the externals painted. Progress will continue on the new toilet block however it is not due for completion until April 2026. The concrete pour that was meant to be happening last Friday will now be happening tomorrow after the concert.

Sustainability Noticeboard

We all share one simple purpose: to protect what we love. Every sustainable choice we make today helps create a safer, healthier future for our children.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability is the practice of meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations (including our children’s generation) to meet their own.

START SMALL, MAKE A BIG IMPACT

Sustainability can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are five easy ways to begin:

  • Refuse: Say no to unnecessary products – like single-use plastics or freebies you don’t need.
  • Reduce: Buy only what you need, choose items with less packaging, and opt for quality over quantity.
  • Reuse: Repair, repurpose, borrow, donate, or buy second-hand. Giving things a second life keeps them out of landfill and saves resources.
  • Recycle: Sort your waste so materials like paper, glass, and certain plastics can be turned into something new.
  • Recover: Compost food scraps.

(Tip: Landfill should always be the last resort – it’s a major contributor to greenhouse gases.)

FOOD WASTE: Why It Matters

Every day, Australia sends 19,000 tonnes of food waste to landfill. When food rots, it produces methane – a greenhouse gas 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, accelerating climate change. Meanwhile, Sydney’s landfills are almost at capacity, so something must change.

Along with planning meals, shopping with a list, storing food properly, and making meals from leftovers, one of the simplest ways to make big difference is to Compost your food scraps.

Willoughby Council makes it easy with helpful resources and even subsidised compost bins.

WHY BUY WHEN YOU CAN BORROW?

Need party games? Planning a DIY project? Going camping? Instead of buying, borrow.

The Sydney Library of Things is an incredible community resource where you can borrow almost anything – giant lawn games, gazebos, hedge trimmers, tents, fishing gear, dehumidifiers, even soccer ball cake tins!

Alongside the Northbridge Party Kits we featured earlier, this service helps you save money, reduce waste, and keep useful items in circulation.

Visit the site and explore the library.

Every action counts. Start with one change today.

Visual Arts Professional Learning

Visual Arts Professional Learning

Our staff recently had the wonderful opportunity to engage in a professional learning session led by the passionate and highly skilled Mrs. Savage. This workshop proved to be an invaluable experience, enriching our understanding and practice of visual arts teaching.

Mrs. Savage shared her deep expertise in a variety of printmaking techniques, providing hands-on demonstrations that allowed staff to explore new creative methods. Everyone walked away feeling inspired to try the fresh ideas in our classrooms.

A key focus of the professional learning was the upcoming Visual Arts syllabus changes set to be implemented in 2026. Mrs. Savage guided us through these updates, helping us understand how to align our teaching with the new curriculum requirements effectively.

Mrs. Savage also shared her recent learning at the Art Gallery of NSW. She discussed ways to incorporate First Nations techniques into visual arts lessons in a culturally sensitive and authentic manner. This insight is crucial in fostering respect and understanding of Indigenous cultures within our teaching practice, ensuring that our students receive a rich and inclusive arts education.

We feel fortunate to have benefited from Mrs. Savage’s expertise and passion, which will undoubtedly enhance our visual arts programming.
