Space Camp 2023
Over the holiday break 12 students from Marists Sisters’ College travelled to the USA to engage in two weeks of STEM activities with a focus on space exploration.
During the first week students were located in Houston, Texas. Students had the opportunity to watch a baseball game, visit the health museum, the natural science museum and the Houston Space Center. When students were not out visiting attractions they were engaging in STEM based activities and engaging in presentations. The focus of the week was the ‘7 habits of highly effective people’ to equip students with necessary skills for life. Throughout the first week the students were grouped with Merici College from Canberra, where they made many new friends when engaging in STEM based activities and solving current issues with space travel.
After a week students travelled to Huntsville , Alabama to engage in the space camp program at the U.S space and Rocket Center. During their time at Space camp students worked as a team to confront mission scenarios that required critical thinking and problem solving. Students were also immersed in astronaut training techniques using equipment adapted from NASA’s astronaut program. They learnt about space hardware, enjoyed an educational water activity and experienced a spaceflight mission while learning about aerospace career opportunities.
