Good Luck Year 12!

Our Year 12 students are about to embark on their HSC Trial Examinations, and we extend our heartfelt wishes for their success in the upcoming two weeks. These students have demonstrated dedication in their preparation, collaborating closely with their teachers. I am truly impressed by the commitment shown by those who participated in holiday workshops and SCS Masterclasses, and I express my gratitude to the teachers who supported them during the break.

I recall my Tutor Teacher at secondary school, Mr O’Shea. He told me once before exams: “You don’t need luck because you have talent”. And, so, as I reflect on his wise words to me, I say the same to our Year 12s:

Use your talents and demonstrate what you do know, and what you can do! No luck is needed. Believe in yourself.

Attendance

Attendance in class is one of the most critical aspects of learning. Deep learning is relational and relies on the interaction between the learner, the teacher, and the learner and other learners. Not being in class significantly impacts how the learner can process new knowledge and skill acquired and then process in such a way as to draw significant meaning and understanding. Being in class is a legal requirement and an essential element in the learning process.

Applications for Student Leave

Please note that under the Education Act NSW (1990) there is a legal requirement of parents/carers to ensure students are at school each day. The College’s long-standing position has been that requests for leave made during school terms should only be made in exceptional circumstances. These include:

  • Elite sporting representation;
  • Paid acting work;
  • Travel for bereavement reasons.

Applications for leave for family holidays mid-term will be declined as they are not in the best educational interests of a student.
