Year 11 Society and Culture

On Monday 5th August, Year 11 Society and Culture students visited the Gallipoli Mosque in Auburn to supplement their studies in the ‘Personal and Social Identity’ and ‘Intercultural Communication’ units. Students engaged in a tour of the mosque and then visited the ISRA Academy where they had a chance to speak with Muslim women about topics such as the role of women, Muslim identity, media portrayal of Islam, common misconceptions about the religion, and significance of the hijab. They were also treated to a traditional Turkish lunch!
