Year 9 PASS Students Dive into Nutrition and Physical Activity

This term, our Year 9 PASS students have embarked on an exciting journey into the world of nutrition and physical activity. As part of their curriculum, they are exploring the vital role that nutrition plays in sports and everyday life. The unit has been designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject. So far students have learned about the different types of nutrients, their functions, and how they contribute to overall health and athletic performance. Another key area of focus has been the investigation of fuel sources. Students have explored how the body uses carbohydrates, fats, and proteins as energy sources during various physical activities.

One of the highlights of the term has been the practical labs, where students have had the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real world scenarios. In a recent lab, students investigated the effectiveness of sports drinks versus water as hydration strategies during training. They conducted experiments to measure hydration levels and performance outcomes, gaining hands on experience in scientific inquiry and data analysis. As we move forward into the term, students will continue to explore more advanced topics in nutrition and physical activity. They will engage in further practical labs and projects that will challenge their critical thinking and problem solving skills. We are excited to see how these experiences will shape their understanding and inspire them to make informed choices about their health and fitness.
