Whitley House reflections on the Exodus Service Day
On Friday 16 May, students from Whitley House travelled to Ashfield to volunteer at the Exodus Foundation Loaves and Fishes Free Restaurant. Their reflections from the day are included below:
“This was an extremely rewarding experience because we were given the opportunity to help others in need. We worked together to package 1024 containers of powdered milk and oats. In the process we learnt about the Bill Crews foundation and the way it helps people in our community. We packaged, taped and labelled with drawings to brighten people’s day. We are so grateful for this experience as we learnt so much and were able to give back to the people in need.”

Urban Challenge | Winners Announced!
This week, staff from Urban Challenge returned to MLC School to present a slideshow reflection of the experience and announce the winning team. Teams collected points across the week by completing a variety of tasks and challenges, and were judged on their enthusiasm, teamwork and resilience, amongst other things. Congratulations to Team 2 and their teacher Manuel Condoleon, who were announced as the winners.
Some highlights from the team blogs are included below:
“Today we completed the Spit to Manly walk. Throughout the walk we saw beautiful views and different wild creatures such as water dragons and a stingray. After we finished our hike we treated ourselves to some ice cream. We finished our day with a MasterChef cooking competition!”
– Team 2
“On Day 3, we took a bus to Our Big Kitchen, where we got to cook meals for people in need. Making Thai curry spaghetti and fruit skewers, our hearts were warmed knowing we made a difference in the world today!”
– Team 4
“During Day 4 of the Urban Challenge, we went to Manly. While at Manly harbour, we picked up rubbish on the beach and also learnt about plastic pollution and what we can do to make a difference.”
– Team 5
Uniform reminders
A reminder that students are expected to wear their blazers to and from school as the outer garment for Term 2 and Term 3. I ask for your support to ensure your daughter is wearing her correct uniform to and from school, including her blazer.
