Year 8

The final week of term was a busy one, with the Year 8 cohort participating in the usual end-of-term activities alongside farewelling their Big Sisters in Year 12 alongside the rest of the Senior School. Monday saw the cohort in Luminary groups reflecting on the term; students shared the enjoyable and positive experiences they had over the last nine weeks. When reflecting on the Immersive Learning Experience, students shared that they enjoyed “meeting and talking to people” they previously hadn’t and “spending time with friends…having the opportunity to eat Kangaroo and Crocodile meat” among many other highlights. The cohort also shared how enjoyable experiences such as the House Athletics Carnival had been for them. The Visual Arts excursion was a popular day for the girls this term, with many reflecting on the fun of being on the rides and at Luna Park with their friends.

On Monday we also had the joy of witnessing the Battle of the Bands. We had two Year 8 groups participate and it was beautiful to see groups of students come together to perform music. Thank you to The Flying Caterpillars for their highly commended performance of 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and to Barton for their energetic rendition of Disco! in the Panic Room originally performed by Bug Hunter. I was so impressed with both groups’ willingness to rehearse, prepare and perform in front of the Senior School – congratulations to you all!

Spring Break

As we move into the break, I would like to remind all the cohort of the importance of slowing down and taking a break. When we return next term, there will be a busy few weeks before the rollover into Year 9. I want to ensure the girls are relaxed and ready to face the experience of moving into their new subjects, electives and classes next term.

I encourage everyone to maintain healthy routines that feature exercise, eating well, drinking lots of water and sleep. It is also timely to have conversations as a family about device use and not overdoing games, online forums and screen time. These, if left unchecked, can quickly get out of hand across a break.

Summer Uniform

The summer uniform commences from Tuesday 11 October 2022 (Term 4, Week 1). I would like to remind parents and students that if a new summer uniform needs to be purchased, it is a good idea to investigate that in the coming week. Please note, pants are only available as a part of the Winter uniform and are not to be worn across Term 4.

A reminder that nail polish, fake lashes, additional piercings and make-up will not be tolerated here at school. Hair needs to remain of a natural colour and should not be worn in either a claw clip or large coloured scrunchies.

It will also be worthwhile to encourage your child to spend a little time with black shoe polish on their shoes before they return in October.

Parents, your support with this across the upcoming break is most appreciated.

Congratulations Year 8 on all your efforts and enthusiasm for the new this term, it is most appreciated. I wish you all a safe, fun break from school and look forward to seeing you all back in Term 4!
