Year 12

Year 12

Year 12 are busy preparing for their HSC and IB Trials next week. They have been using their study and prep to finalise notes, complete practise responses and check in with their teachers. Your daughter’s teachers are a key component of the support network on offer at MLC School, including your daughter’s luminary, the curriculum team, faculty heads, wellbeing staff, mentors, counselling team and myself as Head of Year (HOY).

Elisa Scala (Deputy Head of Senior School – Academic) spoke with Year 12 this week about exam rules and regulations for the Trial period. It is essential that students arrive for their exam at least 30 minutes prior to their exam. This time allows your daughter to settle in, have their name marked off and flag any issues with staff. Please familiarise yourselves with the Illness/Misadventure process should your daughter become unwell during the Trials. This can be found on Omnia (the parent portal) and in this week’s newsletter under News. In Luminary this week, girls used the final session for personal study and check ins with luminaries. The Year 12 Luminary Team, some of whom have known your daughters since Year 7, are a great source of support in Luminary and House time.

We have encouraged Year 12 to approach their wellbeing this term in the same way as they do study – to create a wellbeing plan that works for them and to programme things like exercise and sleep. Diet is a key factor in supporting brain health and mood, particularly under stress. Please note that full winter uniform is required for the Trials.

A big congratulations goes to Nadia Chan (Year 12) for her performance in the CAT Competition (Computational and Algorithmic Thinking), run by the Australian Maths Trust. She achieved a Credit and Distinction Award in the Senior Division. We’re so proud of the HSC Drama students who performed their pieces last week and look forward to the HSC Music performances on Friday afternoon.

Our image this week is of Paul Dillon from DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research & Training) who gave a wonderful talk to Year 12 about the use of alcohol and safe partying strategies. Paul has worked with Year 12 since Year 10 and the girls responded very well to the information he gave them.

The Trials can be a stressful time, so please check in with me if your daughter requires support and look after yourselves too.

As the end of Year 12 approaches, could I ask for your support in ensuring the following:

  • All absences must be accounted for. Absence notification can be submitted by:
    • Using the Absence button on the blue left hand side menu in Omnia
    • Using the Absentee tile on the front of the MLC School app
  • As the Trials approach, please be mindful of the procedure on applying for Illness and Misadventure. Click here for information about how to submit an Illness and Misadventure Form on Omnia.
  • The uniform policy highlighted in the Welcome to Term 3 email sent last week is a very helpful guide on the expectations around uniform, specifically jewellery. Click here for the letter.
