Year 12

Year 12

As another ‘last’ event for Year 12, they had their last Opera House concert on Monday as MLC School students. As part of the MLC School community, the door never really closes and we would love to welcome them back as alumni next time.

It was such a special event for our group, and they have been working hard on the routines, stage management, performances and pieces for months. On Tuesday in our Year meeting, the whole group was still buzzing from the excitement of the performances, chatting about which one was their favourite. It was a long day with study prep in the morning for many of the girls and then travelling into the city. The girls got a great opportunity to spend time with their friends, eating dinner at the Opera House and just taking in the beautiful views. Their behaviour was exceptional, and they were a great role model for the younger girls. Kirriana Edwards-Ware (Year 12) did the Acknowledgement of Country address as beautifully as always. The Year 12 musicians and stage crew, under the leadership of Hannah Banks (Year 12) as Music Captain and Tiana Robinson (Year 12) as Stage Crew Captain plus our wonderful dancers, represented their year group so well. Hearing the music staff farewell Year 12 with a surprise rendition of ‘Que sera sera’ on stage was a moment I’m sure they won’t forget. There are many names to mention but Justine Zhang’s violin solo and Uma Singleton and Evie Papamanuel’s vocals were highlights, not to mention the many Year 12 students leading the Senior choir, such as Emily Davis.

This week in Luminary time, we begin a program of Careers presentations, organised by Jo Cilia, our Head of Futures and Pathways. Please check in with your daughters about these and encourage them to read the weekly emails that alert Year 12 to open days, early entry applications and careers options. Our girls have been very proactive in seeing Jo for advice and the meetings work well if students have completed some research beforehand about what they would like to do next year. All of Year 12 have accounts with the Careers Department – see link here.

Our Careers centre on Level 3 is full of wonderful brochures, information and browsing is highly encouraged!

Attendance by Year 12 in classes has greatly improved this week and we encourage you to let us know of any issues that your daughter is facing around attendance. Term 2 is a busy schedule of content and assessments and teachers are working hard to support their students. Despite the attraction of platforms like Canvas, the classroom experience and support cannot be replicated online. Many girls have been using their study periods to check in with teachers about major works, etc and we encourage them to use their study periods at school productively so that girls can go home and rest and connect with family.

If you have any concerns about your daughter’s progress, please contact their class teacher. For pastoral and wellbeing concerns, please contact me or your daughter’s luminary.

My contact details are: sconnolly1@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au or on 02 8741 9736.
