Year 11

Year 11

Voting for our 2026 Leadership team closed this morning, Friday 1 August at 8am. It has been such an exciting week for the students in more ways than one. As we are aware putting yourself like this takes courage, particularly competing against your peers and sometimes good friends, additionally a large amount of empathy is required as well.

At our Year meeting on Tuesday 29 July, Fiona Pow (Head of Students Year 10 to Year 12) and I reflected on the moments when we have both applied for the same 3 positions over the many years we have been working together, where we have had turns of being successful and disappointed. This almost always brought awkwardness to our relationship. We shared that these times required compassion to ourselves, allowing ourselves time to reflect and be disappointed and compassion to the other person if they have been unsuccessful. We also mentioned that you can be disappointed with grace or ‘class’ even if you must ‘fake it until you make it’. At the end of the day, we have several students who would be excellent at the positions available; however, there is only a limited number available to this wonderful year group.

Thank you to May Nguyen (Year 11) and Mary Cameron (Year 11) for leading our Year meeting and Mary for her interesting MLC School fact about the Silver Jubilee Cake. Thank you also to Year 11 students Maxine Hawkins, Olivia Pan, Allegra Chiang, Zoya Rezainia, Laila Chopra and Sasha Murray for participating in the meeting.

Congratulations to our Term 3 Luminary Representatives who will lead Luminary sessions this term. Their first task is to prepare for the Big Sister Little Sister session next week on Compassion and discussing the upcoming Anti-Bullying Week in Week 4. I am pleased that the following Year 11 students have put themselves forward this term:

  • Abbeythorpe – Olivia Pan and Allegra Chiang
  • Booralee – May Nguyen and Mary Cameron
  • Churunga – Allegra Carlini and Tilly Ackland
  • Leawarra – Stephy Liang and Phoebe Zein
  • Lester – Cathy Nguyen and Zoe Bigg
  • Mooramoora – Gauri Nathan and Harriet Hahn
  • Prescott – Maxine Hawkins and Christine Li
  • Sutton – Jessie Xu, Zoe Taylor
  • Wade – Amelia Tchan and Milla Zhang
  • Whitley – Olivia Sun-Ryan and Serena Farley

The Paul Dillon presentation on Wednesday 30 July received positive feedback from Year 11 students. He provided a tailored presentation to the cohort and provided up to date information on trends, risks and ways for young people to keep safe when socialising. Many of the strategies Paul discussed with the students are to keep others and themselves safe.
