Year 11

As the term begins to draw to a close, there are still many events happening at School. Next week we will be celebrating Round Square week and I know that Year 11 students have been an integral part of the planning for this.

On Friday 9 June 2023, I accompanied Sara Yaqub (Year 11), Ava Dean (Year 11), Divya Sharma (Year 11) and Matilda Banfield (Year 11) to the Student Wellbeing Conference at Knox Grammar School. Here’s what they had to say about it:

‘We were given the opportunity to go to a Student Wellbeing Conference at Knox Grammar School where we were able to connect and share our ideas with students from all across Sydney. We participated in student led workshops that gave us a deeper understanding of what wellbeing entails and different factors that contributed to improving student wellbeing. These valuable insights reminded us to invest in our wellbeing, build meaningful connections by expressing gratitude for the positives within our lives, and balance our professional and personal lives. We left the conference with innovative ideas that we hope MLC School will be able to implement to allow all students to gain further knowledge regarding their own understanding of personal wellbeing.’

On Wednesday this week, the School enjoyed Illuminate, curated by our fabulous Design, Art and Technology (DART) Department. It was brilliant to see the Year 11 work on display; we clearly have a lot of talented artists and I was impressed by the conceptual maturity of their work. To finish off the week, the Year group enjoyed our final Big Sister/Little Sister session of the term, playing games together in the sun.

Year 11 students have successfully navigated a hectic few weeks and can now look forward to the break and some time out. It’s important that each student has a clear idea of what they would like to achieve over the holidays and that they put together a plan for when this will happen. There are a few assessments early next term, but the main priority should be consolidating subject knowledge and skills ahead of the Term 3 assessment block in Week 6 and Week 7 (Monday 21 August to Friday 1 September 2023). The last week of this term is a great opportunity for students to clarify with their subject teachers exactly what they need to do.
