Year 10 PDHPE
Bstreetsmart was an awesome experience which taught Year 10 students some crucial road safety lessons. Held at Qudos Bank Arena on Wednesday 23 August, it was a massive event with 8000 students from over 45 schools.
We watched a live crash scene where a drunk driver hit a motorbike rider and a pole, leaving one of his friends dead, and multiple people injured. To see an actual car crash like this was very confronting and made us all feel uneasy. However, it taught us the importance of being defensive drivers and how one poor choice can have serious consequences. We then heard numerous stories from those whose lives have been impacted by road safety incidents. These stories were touching and emotional to hear first-hand and brought everything into perspective.
After that, we checked out cool interactive activities during break, like stumbling around whilst using virtual reality goggles which mimicked the feeling of being drink, peeking into police and fire trucks, and road safety quizzes. Everything that was said at the event emphasised the serious effects and irreversible aftermath of driving irresponsibly or under the influence. As many of us are either about to start driving or have already begun, this experience shifted our perspectives and significantly heightened our caution when it comes to being behind the wheel.
Overall, it was a fun and memorable experience that etched important lessons in our minds forever.
