Year 1 Excursion to Rouse Hill Estate

On Friday 17 February 2023, Year 1 students were immersed in history at the Rouse Hill Estate. Students experienced the types of chores children may have been responsible for in 1889, including collecting water from the pump, cleaning the stables, polishing saddles, ironing and more! All this before beginning a day at school! After lunch our students dressed up in aprons and got ready for school lessons such as sewing, writing using slate boards, and exercise class with the maypole. The teacher, Mrs Fox, was very strict. She even showed us the cane that was used in 1889 as a punishment for two boys who had dipped a girl’s braids into the ink well. There are so many differences between the past and the present. Schools, clothes, games, transport and jobs are just a few of the areas that we learnt about. We had a wonderful time being so engaged in this experience and can’t wait to put our learning into practice during our Collaborative Learning Project (CLP) lessons at our school in the year 2023.
